I'm not bothered either way. It's not like I'm going somewhere to do illegal stuff.

I'm a active duty military retiree...not going to mess that up.

Not to pick on you (and thanks for your service!), but...You never exceed the speed limit? Always come to complete stops at every stop sign? Never park more than 12" from the curb? You don't think that information could be transmitted (and will be, right soon) to your insurance company, local law enforcement, etc? It's just a more efficient way to do what they already do with red-light cams. The algorithm is hungry.

And I hope you don't take your vehicle through too many (or too few?) fast-food drive thrus (which they would also know), because you're costing all of us money in insurance premiums with your high cholesterol...this information will also be transmitted to your insurance company. And why should a hospital treat you for your heart attack before someone who didn't go to fast-food drive thrus? And should such a person really be allowed to buy spare ribs from the grocery store? (beep beep beep, sorry sir...you've exceeded the allotment of 3kg of pork per month for people with cholesterol levels above 160). [just an example, of course, and I hope and trust that you make good food choices].

The idea that "if you don't do anything wrong, you've got nothing to fear from the surveillance state" doesn't make sense to me.

ever thought about why we thank members of the military for making a personal choice to serve their country(unless they were drafted) and get paid to do it, but no one thanks a plumber for making the choice get paid to unclog your toilet on game day?

There's a little bit of a difference between an opportunity to see combat vs the opportunity to see sh*t.

Most service members spend more time cleaning up shitters than they will ever see in combat. Or stirring burning barrels of shit and JP8 with a fence stake.

Nobody at Toyota cares if you speed or conduct rolling stops. Auto insurance premiums will be driven up much more by:

    1. Other Bad drivers
    2. Other Uninsured drivers
    3. Criminals stealing / damaging cars or parts

The real question is...if someone is leading a high speed chase with law enforcement...Can Toyota disable that vehicle through connected services? And how much insurance premiums would that save by avoiding the collateral damage of a drawn out chase?

    Food for thought...

I went on an overnight camping trip yesterday and realized it's been a long time since I've slept in a single tent, on the ground/grass.

I did get to see many campers and what type of trucks tow them...saw a guy with a 2021 OR pulling a camper that he said weighs 4800lbs/400lbs tongue weight. I asked, "any problems/issues towing that much weight?" To which he replied, "No". He used the distribution weight system on the ball tow too.

But, back to your reply...Of course I've exceeded a speed limit. At times I do a "California roll" at Stop Signs. But I do park as close to the curb as I can!

As for Fast Food drive-thru ordering affecting insurance premiums? I'm a bit confused on that logic on how this health information is transferred to any vehicle insurance company. There's a Federal Law called HIPAA that protects sensitive health information from being disclosed without the patient's consent.

I work in a hospital (Cath Lab) and very aware of the consequences of discussing patient health information.

As for the idea that, "If you don't do anything wrong, you've got nothing to fear" is a logic that needs/requires compliance. I don't fit into that group, IMO.

There are may things people choose to do in this life which "makes no sense to me" but who am I to IMPOSE my standards?

I have certain expectations and maybe that's where you and I are similar.

I have to remember to lock my Sport now because the App doesn't keep bothering me to lock my truck. lol

Check out threads " out of the blue call" and "opted out" and there is good info on how to get out of tracking.
