This is true but the future customer gets the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty it happens. I have been the happy owner of 2 shit shows. One had probably been a Minnesota car that had rusting problems that were covered up by bondo that fell off a week after purchase. It got another quick fix and told to deal with it. Second time it was in an accident that became apparent afterwards it was in the shop for parts going bad every 3 months, water pump, master cylinder, injectors, radiator, air conditioning pump. That one I purchased an extended warranty on that had a $50 deductible but it was the time in the shop that was a pain.

They don’t have to make a profit on every transaction, they messed up and you deserve to be treated fairly. Still hoping the dealership does what’s right for you!

The funny thing is, used trucks and trade-ins are bringing more than invoice price for a new one from the dealer. He could sell it to Carvana or any other dealer wanting to buy a used, low mileage Tacoma. And his dealer should be willing to sell him one at invoice due to their screwup. He actually should make some money on this deal. And the dealer probably would rather he sold it to someone else, so they don't have to cover up the issue with a new customer. I believe he should probably ask his dealer if they care if he shops it around.

I'd tell them you need it resolved or you need to know of their course of action by this Friday. I think they are going to dig in their heels using this "inspection report" they have on the table.

OP, this is a great point. This incident likely resulted in premature wear and you’ll be dealing with “gremlins” for years to come.

I think they gave him a really nice loaner and haven't been in any rush to get it back. So he can be patient.

Roger that. Dairy Queen would not take so long to replace your ice cream cone though if there was something wrong with it. And the local franchisee wouldn't try to push this cost off to corporate either.

And you may very well be right. I think all of us would love to have been a fly on the wall as this matter was discussed by the managers. Bottom line, I still have no idea how this will turn out ultimately.

As recommended by most here, replacement of truck or full inspection of engine and addressing any damage with up to a new engine along with an extended warranty.
