I would try to get an OE one if you can, I really don't know what else it could be, I wouldn't think the A/C Amplifier would be applying too much voltage to it but I suppose you could check it.
Mine was like 10-11v key on engine off, I didn't check it running.

I can’t tell you how many aftermarket actuators we've had to warranty over the years, if it's a GM product even the OE ones don't last (07-14 Cevy Impala's you may as well keep 3 of them in the glovebox because they constantly fail).

Ordered a cheapy on Ebay for $14. If this doesn't work then something else must be up.....

I did see this on Rocakuto.

Failures of the actuators often lead to the air door becoming stuck in one position, leading to improper ventilation.

    • Electrical Failures: Motor Failure, Poor Electrical Connections, or Internal Electrical Components on the PCB Fail
    • Mechanical Failures: Broken Gears (Split in the Main Driver Gear or Broken Teeth on Small Gears)
    • Functional Failures: Internal Feedback for the Actuator's Position no Longer Functions Properly, often Resulting in an Intermittent Failure.

@Bishop84 any insight on this? Shitty parts or something else going on?

    @Dm93 - Tuesday morning update:

    11am -- 65 and warm/sunny. No noise. Nothing. Works perfect.....UGH!!!!

I'm thinking is there some temp sensor?? I read something that this blend door kicks in when the outside/inside temp are different.

Does any of this make sense?

Feel like I am chasing a Ghost!!!

Mine clicks on max fan mode. Whether it’s with AC on or heater blowing.
I hear it coming through the vent when it’s open directly to the right of the steering wheel. Probably a bad actuator.
    Sounds hard to find

Not really but if you have recirculate turned on it should be in the recirculate position, if recirculate is turned off it should be in the fresh air position.
I still suspect it's just crappy gears in the aftermarket actuators that are stripping out.

The actuators are all easy to get to, they are all on the passenger side behind the glovebox.
I posted the locations and positions relative to the selector knobs in the post linked below.

Easy to change - done it 3x already....LOL

So weird that it works and then it doesn't work....

Today Checked the voltage Key on - Engine Off - 10.8
    Engine on - 13.6

Seems right. Just thinking why it works sometimes and not others.....

Works when I install it and then when the weather is cooler - craps out.

    Warms up - its fine.....

That just went out the window -----

Just check it now - Warm almost 70 degrees -- clicking.

No Rhyme, no rhythm to why this is happening!!!!

I am all about OEM - trust me - I did it with the clock spring. It was the horn and airbag and that's important!

Now this is small device - electrical and mechanical. For A/C convenience.

I just find it weird it works when it wants to....which leads me to believe it might be something then this part....

I need to know that this part is the problem and 100% certain before I drop $125-150 on a OEM part that is non-returnable.

Side note: Mentioned earlier bought a no name cheapy for $14 off Ebay. If it works or replicates what I got from Standard via RockAuto might back up my theory it's something else.....

Sounds like it to me, as I said in a earlier post I've seen the same thing with Chrysler stuff, aftermarket actuators many times won't even calibrate without stripping out.

    Been pricing OEM $100-$110.

Just need to be sure this is the problem......

Just thinking here....if the new aftermarket parts are garbage and stripped out - why do they soundly work no problem and then hour later don't.

I doubt they would work at all if the gears are stripped? Things that make you go hmmmm....

I'm open to other possibilities but I mean it's a motor with a series of gears that moves a door, no sensors, no feedback circuit, just a power and ground to move it.:notsure:
Are you certain it's that one and not one of the other 2 actuators?

It's definitely that! I'll try to take a video tomorrow and post.

Thanks again for all your help.
