Bear log entry 1: Today is opening day. Weather was looking nice last week. Hopeful for a quick opening weekend trip, my plans were ruined by mother nature. Tuesday we had a major storm come in and dumped 16 inches of snow in town and 30 in the mountains. The once bare hillsides now covered in a thick blanket of white. All of my go to spots will be snowed in for the next week at least. As much as I'm bummed about it, we needed it. Winter was really dry this year and we need all the moisture we can get now. A few calls confirmed no access across most the popular bear spots. With the temps dropping and 2 feet of snow I'm sure the bears that were out are now back in their dens waiting this out. After a long conversation with my boss he mentions a coworker who has a ranch (that I already knew about) that consistently has bears on the property. I run next door and chat with him. I get partial permission to get on, just need to let the guy who lives on the ranch that I'm going to be driving around. Crazy part is this place is like 20 MAYBE 30 miles outside of town. We go over some SAT maps and he shows me where they consistently see them. Its a long creek bottom with jagged faced on both sides, and scattered timber in the bottom. I'll be heading out there sometime next week when the road clears up.

I had a friend move up here this year and the goal is to get him on a bear, but with this new access he just might have to wait. I'll save the mountain trips for him but this close spot will be for me and my kids. My son is running around the house with his toy bow shooting all his sisters stuffed animals telling me he shot a bear. I think it would be fun to save this local easy spot for family trips and save the harder stuff for me and my buddy.

My bag has been packed, unloaded and re packed 3 times. Its time to finally get out after being cooped up all winter.

Do any of y’all use fat tire e-bikes? I’m looking for a 750 watt, class 2 bike. I’ve ridden a Quietkat Ranger 750 and it was nice. I’m looking at the Rambo 750 Bushwacker and the Bakcou 750 Flatlander. I’m in Sw Florida so most of my riding would be sugar sand, mud, and tall grass. With the discounts I get all of those bikes are within $400-$500. Thanks in advance.

Anyone got a muzzle loader they want to get rid of? Hopefully this doesn’t break any of the mod rules since you don’t have to have a ffl to sell a muzzle loader. If so I’ll delete.

Its technically not a firearm till its loaded, that being said what specifically do you need?

I was thinking one of those Remington type action muzzle loaders. I drew multi season this year and don’t have a smoke stick yet.

Yes! No 209 primers (musket or percussion caps only) and no optics…must have open sights. The cap must also be exposed. It rules out some of the black powder rifles on the market.

I found both of mine on a couple auction sights for a great deal. Both are Knight Bighorns. They are accurate and fairly easy to maintain. Musket Cap breech plugs and nipples are still available if you can’t find one in a Northwest edition. Here is a pic of my son’s thumb hole RMEF edition in stainless. Found it for under $200. Good luck!

Looks like you can use primers now in Washington state. Atleast that’s what the regs say. I’ll double check before I buy
