so stocks...since we are going to be in a volatile market for a while (recession estimates around 170 days or whatever) i was thinking of getting 100 shares of a solid company, like qualcom and writing weekly covered calls against it. Obvious risk is that I buy it, and we just plummet dramatically lower. But if im writing short time frame contracts i might not be stuck with it for that long. Its already distressed enough, and still a stable company.

Just trying to think of a way to make some more money for the next 3-4 months vs DCA into VTI or VOO and watch it just bounce around for the next 6 months. not really going anywhere. Buying 90 more shares of qualcom for example is over half my recession war chest though. so its kind of an "eggs in one basket" scenario" but not like just yoloing options. Dumb idea? decent idea?

edit: maybe i need to find a good company outside the tech sector to use for my covered call underlying

That's a thing you can do, but I'd pick an extremely stable, high-dividend, recession-proof company. T or D would be good choices. Mitigate your risk a little.

But then, I don't touch options. I'm just over here buying the fuck out of depressed total market funds.

    Muh man!
I reuse bags and plastic utensils. I assemble my sandwich at work so it's 1/2 a pita in a bag, some greens and cherry tomatoes in another bag...I'll get an insane amount of use out of it. I've determined that after about 3 months your average plastic spoon will split right at the bend while stirring your grape nuts and raisins into your yogurt.
    Thrifty AF
I always give the 20somethings at work crap because they're all disposable...reuse a coffee cup? Nope...3 trips to the water cooler, 3 cups. Aluminum cans in the regular trash....
"Hey, if you're going to blame my generation for global warming the least you can do is feign you give two shits and reuse a cup!"

I've been doing something like this for quite a while, the trade off is that the companies that are stable and not super volatile don't get nearly the same premiums on the options. So for something all over the place like the meme's you might get a few percent a week return, but on any given week the underlying might spike by 25% and now your call is way ITM and you're stuck. But an underlying that isn't volatile is going to give you far less return and makes it less worth it. You can always just roll out the option if you go ITM, but if you go too far ITM you end up getting basically no credit to roll out to the next week/further which sucks.
