You could go all out and hot dip galvanize it!

3 month order from generator mart. It's diesel. $7k. I opted for this because I have propane range and fireplace, electric heat pump. Specifically wanted a third option for fuel to ensure I have something if the other runs out. Diesel happens to have the highest efficiency when it comes to fuel/power ratio and lasts a whole lot longer than gas does in the tank. This setup also is a direct engine to (alternator??) instead of having a belt to run it....like a engine to transmission configuration. I figure, what I don't use in the genny, I can use in my tractor. I chose this specific brand because we use mostly kubotas in all forward operating bases for sustained power. And, it's also recognized as the industry leader in quality and reliability (from what I've researched by users/companies like mining companies and DoD).
I could've gone the cheaper route of course, but I don't ever want to run out of water and fridge power at the house! Food and flushing is way too important to me!!! lol

Would I have to clear coat them myself or railing comes clear coated already?

Is there different colors or just one? I don't want it to look like my galvanize fence.

@SpyGoat might be able to answer that for you. He's a fence/railing guy. I'm just going by the knowledge gained watching This Old House. :anonymous:

I coulda used some random kids willing to work this past weekend. I had to mow my neighbor's and mine yards. Would've happily offered up some $ to some young entrepreneurs to keep me from having to do it.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
Honestly, it depends on where you get it. Some companies sell it completely coated and some do not.

Alright, I have a pretty big fence company and sell railing. Aluminum fencing comes in a few different styles encompassing three different sizes. Residential is usually 1" rails and 5/8" picket/balusters. Commercial is generally 1-1/4" rails and 3/4" picket/balusters. Industrial is usually 1-1/2" rails and 1" picket/balusters. Your most common type is residential. I easily sell 50 times more residential than commercial. Aluminum fence and railing is generally powder coated (ours all is) and is a very good choice for people that want the look of the old style stick built iron but don't want the expense and the hassle. Aluminum fence and rail is lightweight, strong, easy to install and looks great. Easily my favorite fence/railing product aside from the custom cedar work we do.

Iron has one benefit over aluminum; It can take a lot of abuse.

Iron railing and fence are made from solid bars where the aluminum product is a hollow extrusion.

If you are looking for a very solid aluminum railing at a pretty good price point, check out Key-Link. They make some great railing.

I hear you! But no....the dull silver color it is. But we hot dip galvanize everything in the shipyards! I also saw as a low cost way....they sell high zinc paints at the auto store. Zinc self sacrifices for corrosion so it will protect it. So grab a couple of cans of that.

I looked at the power walls but the upfront costs aren't reasonable yet. I would also need a big propane tank to go gas...a minimum of 500 gal (ideally 1500). No thanks! This was my compromise. Just plug it into the connection, throw the switch and turn her on (we all should want to do that!).

Kitchen drain clogged after cooking brunch on Sunday. Tried to snake it for a couple hours, no luck. Used a lye drain cleaner, no luck. Boiling water, vinegar, baking soda. Nope. Get up early today and spend 3 hours with the snake but got nowhere. The thing would go about 6' in and hit a stop. It would come out clean as new every time, not a drop of sludge on it. After lunch I decided to throw a hail Mary & pickup this HF clog douche thing. Wasn't sure it wouldn't burst my pipes but either way if this thing failed I'd be paying a lot more to get this resolved. Had my girlfriend (wo)manning the spigot outside, wiped dish soap on the bladder and got it in all the way to the threads. Hooked up the hose & had her do half turns every 10 seconds or so. Water gushed out the first few turns but then it swelled up and sealed. Less than 30 seconds later I hear the whooshing of water down the pipes. Let it run for a couple minutes and took it out. Put everything back together and the sink drains better than it ever has in my 16 months at this condo. Best $9 ever.

Just to a look at Key-Link online. The railings look strong, well built.

I'm used to seeing the weak thin railings. Like this,

I want to stay away from. This is what I'm replacing.

    Nothing but issues.

    Thanks for the reply!

I seen people rattle can spraying their railings. The sprayed finish doesn't last even with hood prep. Then to remove the spray finish and respray the railing, might not be worth it.

In this area there's not much powder coating services, or plating services. I would have to travel to the Boston area.

    Thanks for the reply!

Where in MA are you? I have stocking dealers all over MA. I can get you in touch with someone.

I actually used a single section of Key-Link American textured bronze railing in my living room, to separate the hallway. It's real nice stuff.

    Westport, MA.

The cinder block porch are going to get built in a month.

Is there anything from Key-Link to support the porch roof?

I was thinking about these in Aluminum.

    But, looking for ideas.

Key-Link has a sister company (everything is made in PA at the same plant by the Amish and I am not kidding) called Superior Plastics. They make a very nice 108" structural porch post. It comes in quite a few configurations and the kt include the mounting plates.

Does a 4x4 wooden post or something goes inside the vinyl column or just the vinyl column?
