I wouln't take any trucks without sliders on Rattlesnake. I have a nice dent in one of my sliders to prove it.

Slider are worth every penny :)

Well, to be fair, that was the first obstacle at Constrictor.

If y'all are really thinking about rattlesnake, for those vehicles that are stock, please consider riding with someone else on the trail. There are supposed to be a lot of bypasses, but I've never run it so cant tell you for certain. Regretfully I wont be able to make it that day due to having to work that weekend.

I know of a few trails out west of Utah lake what are people looking for ?
    Dirt road ? / 4x2 friendly
    dirt trail ? / 4x4 friendly
rocky ? (little moab or rattlesnake... i'll try finding tame trail that stock could make)
    sand ? (little sahara / dunes / knolls / 5 mile pass)
    mud ?
...out west cant think of a place for all those

... rattle snake would be fun but i think i'd rather have more people come then have more of a trail my buddy went out with me as the back up vehicle in a stock dodge. He was able to bypass most the hard stuff. There are multiple trails out there most likely can find a tame trail, if not... 5 mile is right around the corner from it and there are some tame ones there. im thinkin of going out there again tomorrow i can try findin a more tame trail to take but what kind should i look for ? road ? trail ? rocky ? sand ? mud ?

I agree, maybe we should just go on 5-mile again, I want to get as many people as I can and a lot of us are running stock. Any other trails that a stock could make it through without too much trouble?

Okay so I'm trying to decide on which trail we should go on.
    1) Rattlesnake
    2) 5-Mile
    3) Pony Express

    What do you guys think?

Although I probably wont be able to attend (I might be able to - trying to work things out), I have been on enough to know some of the limits of the group.

    1. Rattlesnake is not for first timers. It isn't for stock trucks. Rattlesnake is officially rock climbing, not off road/trail run material. I do want to do a Rattlesnake run, but I would put some restrictions in place first (like expect body damage, no 2wd, etc.)

    2. 5-Mile. Easily doable with stock and even 2wd with a little help. Nothing really to see, but it does give more of a feeling of offroad driving, while keeping things safe and no risk. Granted, this was the last trail we went on as a group, but still, very limited options during the winter.

    3. Pony Express. That is one that I was actually planning to do this summer, but I could never really find an ideal route. The major problem with it is it is a very long day of driving.

Lets say you start in American Fork/Cabelas (been a popular starting point for us) around 8:00. By the time people eat, chat, etc, leave at 9. 45 min to get to Fairfield. 5-8 hours for the trail, depending on stops, lunch, etc. Another 1 hour and change to get to Wendover. Then another 2 hours to get back to Salt Lake. 10-13 hours is quite a long trail run, and people would just be getting home about the time they would usually be winding down for bed (dangerous time to drive).

If you're wanting to do something in that area, I think Little Moab might be a fun thing that we've never done as a group. Granted there are places that are really hard, but I'm sure there's spots that aren't quite as hard that will still be good to see what the trucks can do. Of course this might lead to people trying things harder than they should and wrecking things, but thats the only way to know ones limits as well.

Hmm... Sounds like 5-mile is the best for now until more of us can build up our trucks.

Ya know, I completely forgot about Hogs Hollow, mostly because I dont care for mud. It is an option though. RME is going to do a run of it early next month. Its right around the difficulty the group has been doing if I have my trail marked right. http://www.rme4x4.com/showthread.php?t=81087

    This the place: Hoggs Hollow?

It looks good on satellite. So now I guess it's down to Hoggs Hollow or 5-Mile
