Neighbor just gave this to me, I think it only has a 30" deck? Anything I should watch out for? Is there larger decks I can find to put on it? I only ask about that as I have about an acre to mow.

Price was right! Usually MTD parts and information is easy to find and not too expensive.

Decks usually are specific to that kind of machine, probably not enough HP to turn a larger one also.

Do a good service - oil, air filter, grease, sharpen the blade. Wouldn't be a bad idea to change the transmission oil as well.

Found a Rankin 3point splitter. From the picture it looks like a LS20E, so it should be switchable from horizontal to vertical and appears to be in good shape. Guy said it only go used for a couple cords and then got put in storage after he bought a bigger tractor. Having my folks pick it up today. Figured I would get it for my father to use as his 5t electric splitter is a PITA. At $350, I feel it's a good buy.
Plus, it gives me good reason to run a power beyond circuit to the back of the tractor.

It seems like this company is way out of stock, but one suggestion. Otherwise in all honesty look for a zeroturn. I really like the Toro Timecutter 42. For my 3 lawns totaling 1.125 acres.

not a bad deal. I do hear the 3pt splitters are quite slow given the lower GMP on most tractors except skidsteers. What machine are you planning to use?

Thanks, Rusty. I figured I'd need to do a service. Just didn't know if I was going to run into head gasket issues or not.
I'd love to have a zero turn mower, but right now, $free is about all I can afford with having to do other home repairs.

It's going to go on my 1955 Ford 640 with Wagner FEL and crank driven pump. Good thing is, if it doesn't work well on my setup, price is low enough to either flip it or build it to a trailer mounted unit with an engine & pump. Plan to give my father my trailer next yr when I buy a new one anyways and since he borrows it to haul firewood, it would make a decent setup either way.

I totally understand. $Free.99 or barter is my game lately for personal items. I think I sold or traded about $2k worth of parts and equipment since December and I still have more I want and need to work on getting. The 30" mower will work just fine, just take a few more cold ones to complete the mowing job.

Well fellers, I'm feeling a bit nervous...

So far 3 mowers have gone to work no problems and today the weed eater started first pull. o_O

Generally Rusty's luck doesn't go this way, I hope there isn't a new (and expensive) disaster lurking on my personal horizon.
    :fingerscrossed:
I even started up the old International 140 today, cranked less than 5 seconds.

Finally got a new tie rod end for the 4630, it’s been loose for a while. Had they put a grease fitting in it from the factory it may still be good, and it had a rubber cover to keep the dirt out. Now to find time to replace it.

    Yes.

It's nice to be able to remove the gate entirely If you have to haul something long.

I puncture the boot with a grease needle on those and grease them anyways. At 160,000 miles my wife's car and my truck still had good tie rod ends and ball joints because of that.

No, no, no, those are ''opportunity purchases.'' They allow you to buy new needed tools and man toys and to justify the expense to your SO. ''But honey, I HAD to buy that new MIG welder, besides, I'll be able to use it on all sorts of other stuff too!!"

That's about 6 miles from me. I'd need to build another workshop if I bought any more stuff.
