i miss war

I have turned into a bitter, judgemental asshole. I have come to relize, based on my hobbies (kayaking, climbing, backcountry boarding and my GSXR) that I am not happy unless engaged in something that requires 100 percent of my concetration. Speeding like crazy on the bike, bombing down a bowl on the snow board or running huge falls in the kayak. That being said combat is the same and I miss it horribly. everything about a deployment. It is simple, ramen noodles are gold, babywipes are amazing, spam is steak and agression is easy to relieve. My cot is all the home I need. I MISS WAR lets go dwell time, I hate it

my buddy is the same way, he was in iraq twice, in the Marines for 4 years..He loves the adrenaline rush it gave him. hes been home for 3 years, and still not adjusting to civillian life quite right..then again, he always had a few screws loose

Amen bro. I love being deployed. Life in the Army is so much better over seas. Theres so much less bullshit. Got my next one coming in September

 

Garrison life sucks huge balls. I miss deployment like crazy sometimes but holding that edge for all your life will make you brittle.

I completely understand your POV. I did Fallujah Round 1 in 2004 and came back a changed man. I got into Fire/EMS to get my fix, as well as the retard-on-crack fast bike. The one problem I've found with adrenaline is your body adapts to it, and you either crack under the need for it or become burnt out on it. The latter happened to me. Check out joining a volunteer fire dept to get some of your fix, a place where you could die if you don't do things right. It worked for me. Good luck man.

 

Best substitute to get your adrenaline fix is skydiving. Everyone should get into that on your non deployed time. Its great fun

 

Sounds like signs of mild PTSD to me... You'll get through it brother.

I'm here now on my 2nd tour and had it after the first time... Took some time to work through it - but I did.

There's no shame in, dare I say it, counseling. I went through 4 years and I'm not ashamed to say it. I'm antidepressant free, and have been since 2004, when the Marine Corps "counseling" was to turn you into an unfeeling zombie. It doesn't make the demons go away completely, but it does help you shoo them away when they rear their ugly heads.
