Dealerships and car washes use wax. Or faux ceramic.

Real ceramic coatings take like 3 days to layer on properly

Most of which is prep work. I definitely don't have the patience of a proper car detailer.

real ceramics also last a long time

no matter what you do.. the cleaning and prep is by far the most time consuming part of the entire process

my vehicles aren't show cars... so I don't need 3 days of prep lol

ceramics are way easier to apply than wax is and produce better results.

I've been using Turtle Wax Ceramic detailer for the last 2 years. Living in an apartment, I didn't really have a way to do a proper wash. So, I use a touchless automatic. I use the Turtle Wax to remove the water spots, and it keeps the paint nice for awhile. I love that stuff!

Edit: mine certainly isn't a show car, either. Doesn't mean it can't look good.

One of the firet things I did to my Tacoma was have it ceramic-coated.

While it hasn't been bomb proof, it's held up reasonably well over 50,000 miles and three years...haven't had to wax it or any special treatment since, other than regular washing.

My 17 off-road got whatever the Toyota dealership ceramic package is as part of the deal, it's been super nice but I finally took it to a DIY car wash today just to blast all the pollen and everything off. Took about 3 minutes for the truck to look better than brand new because of the underlying ceramic coat.

A ceramic coat can be very nice if applied properly, as long as you know it's limitations. Like we saw on the pipeline run a few years ago, minor scratches can just wipe away. But, it's definitely not as bulletproof as the dealerships try to advertise.

Yeah it definitely doesn't help with pinstripes or real scratches lol.

Good thing my pretty truck is the pavement princess/kiddo transport :D

I was really impressed how it held up to minor pinstripes on @WiscoPat 's Tacoma.

Boy, it went right from April to August. Luckily, I'm working in a giant refrigerator tomorrow so the outside weather will feel extra hot! :bananadead:
