Anytime I mention Southie, I'm told it's such a bad area. In the last few years I've been going there, it doesn't seem any worse (or maybe better) than the parts of Providence I've been through.

 

Yeah...Southie isn't necessarily bad. It's just so close to meth mile and has become a hot spot for the heroin epidemic in the city! These days it's a weird mish mash of life long locals, addicts, the homeless and transplanted yuppies!

 

Just never drive in Providence. I've never seen worse.

 

Yeah and theyre stomping out the last bit of old Eastie

 

I have a little memory of Southie as a kid. My aunt, cousin, and grandmother lived there. When I was 6-7 my aunt was killed suddenly and my grandma and cousin moved. Couldn't remember what street etc they were on.

Boston in general is going through change in my league big time the past few years, so many long standing establishments have been purchased and remodeled or changed and our kind isn't wanted there any longer.

 

I'm on the edge of Providence. My step-daughter moved 10 minutes away into Providence, already witnessed a stabbing in front of her apartment.

 

Ugh, at least there's some good titty bars though

 

I haven't been to one in several years. Even then, the girls that were bartending were way better looking than the ones stripping.

 

It is because they have more confidence and self respect.....

 

10-12 years ago East Boston was the last area where you could find bargain properties. It was just on the verge of what had been happening in Southie and the South End/Back Bay for quite a while. Ashmont is getting rapidly gentrified and even parts of Roxbury.

I expect that in the next few years that will spread to Mattapan which was middle class from just after WW2 until the late 1960s.

Any property along a MBTA or Commuter Rail line is getting pretty expensive. I don't recognize Forest Hills these days. I worked in Southie off and on for 35 years. Last April I cut through Congress Street and came to an intersection I didn't recognize. There was nothing there the last time I had gone through that area, but there were three high rise buildings there.

I hardly recognize much of the city that I knew very well before I retired.

Been a few years for me, I saw Jenna Haze at the Cadillac Lounge.

My bachelor party in 2005 was at Cheaters..nuff said. I have a few good stories from that one.

 

Oof. Where in Providence? Overall it's a fine city but like any city there's shady spots.

We did my buddies bachelor party down here in 2018. That was a hoot. Otherwise I don't go to the titty bars. Just not my scene I guess.


But we have nice beaches in the summer

Is that near the hospital? Makes sense. For some reason hospitals are always a seedy part of town. I think there's a pretty big half way home by the fire department too.

 

Roger Williams isn't that far from there.

 

Yeah it's sad! Nowhere left for regular, blue collar people to settle down. Not that i would do this...but the midnight shift may or may not occasionally blow the trains horn a little extra. A welcome to the neighborhood to all the condo buying yuppies...but like i said I can neither confirm or deny that this actually happens.

I can neither confirm nor deny that when someone requested we not pull up to their building with lights and siren on, we gave them extra and requested the fire even if they weren't needed.
