Iowa City any good? I've got a friend from high school who presently resides in Marion, which I believe is a suburb of CR...?

When Hurricane Irene hit my area in August 2011, the power went out almost immediately and was out for two days; We had a portable generator running the refrigerator, the wireless internet router, a TV, and one cable box but that was it. Two days in August without A/C!

    :annoyed:

We didn't have a battery backup for the sump pump at the time, and my parents and I literally stayed up all night with buckets bailing out the sump pit so the finished basement wouldn't flood. We kept the basement from flooding, but at the expense of not getting any sleep; I may have gotten a couple hours on the basement couch, but I can't remember. The next day I had school, so I showed up early and took a nap in my truck in the parking lot at college with the A/C cranked.

We had received record amounts of rain in the days leading up to Hurricane Irene, so the grounds were absolutely saturated; The sump pump could have handled it if we had power, but we lost power literally within an hour of the hurricane starting. Needless to say, my parents got a secondary "piggyback" sump pump and a battery backup within weeks of Hurricane Irene so we didn't have a repeat of the all-night "bucket brigade" again!

The oil furnace in our old old house shit the bed in February 2007 and it got down to 48 degrees in the house before the HVAC guy could get out there to fix it; Normally I like it cold when I'm trying to sleep, but that was just ridiculous!
