One call to my local lumber yard I can get cedar or redwood. We use both all the time.

 

I don't really have a local one unless I wanna drive a significant distance. Just Lowes and Home Depot. But yesterday I even noticed Home Depot's aisel sign said cedar and it was just redwood lol

 

Up here there is cedar everywhere , Redwood is special order

I don't know which HD or Lowes you frequent in AZ, but the ones near me are hit or miss with their lumber selection. Mostly miss; kindling/scrap. I need to scope out a decent lumber yard one of these days.

 

HD is a lot better, but ya the lumber is a joke compared to what contractors get. I've seen a pallet of furring strips that were all perfectly straight but the guy had to order...well...a pallet online lol. It's actually ridiculous how much I've been scammed on lumber.

 

The cedar market is a very volatile one. Availability in the US has suffered as of late due to Canadian supply issues.

By profession, I am a lumber buyer. It is the bulk of what I do at my company since we make wood fencing. I buy 200+ truckloads of 1x4 S4S in various lengths a year. Mostly WRC (Western Red Cedar), some clears (extremely expensive), White Cedar and some Inland Cedar.

Box stores (HD, Lowes, Menards, etc) aren't very picky and have tremendous buying power. They buy out production runs before a guy like me gets to buy anything.

My advice would be to find a good lumber yard and look there.

 

I felt comfortable getting the large branches down, I have a decent grade back there away from the patio. The trunk is a different beast. I hired that out. Labor in Mexico is generally cheap, I've got a crew that's going to complete the job for @250 dollars. Worth it!

 

Wow that is an amazing price, l spent close to 4 grand last year getting 1 tree removed and 2 others trimmed.

TWO toilets?

 

Technically two bathrooms separated by a pocket door, but still an awful layout that’s getting changed haha

 

Got up early and knocked out about 2' of 2x6 joist that was blocking access to the drain I needed. By 0700 I was attacking the nails & screws along the top of it with my oscillating tool, I preemptively sent an apology text to my neighbor Got it out of the way and finally had enough room to get an arm up there.



After looking at it from a few feet away I followed a hunch and grabbed my level. I guess water flowed uphill when this was built in 83? This whole section was full of a ton of sludge and explains why the leak continued so much longer than expected after I poured just 1 cup of water in the drain. The water wasn't flowing downstream it was just pooled up leaking out of the elbow joint.



Measured once, cut thrice & dry fit everything. I'll be damned if it's not sloped downhill now! Ended up with ~1/2" per foot of slope for this ~28" stretch.



Disassembled, cleaned all the joints & glued it up. Waiting on it to dry as I type. The other fun discovery was that my water supply is weeping enough to see. The mineral deposits on the pipe were what caught my eye on that. So now this weekend I'll be sweating a new copper elbow on that. This also explains why the alcove where my water/gas mains are always has mold growing on the stucco. I figured it was because it's on a north facing wall & doesn't get sun. But this water dripping down the pipe is keeping the whole operation wet. This is turning into a Holmes on Homes episode

 

At some point, you just have to tell yourself to put the "crowbar" down...

 

I will once these dumpster fires are under control. Glad I found the supply line leak before it really gave out.

 

I have to ask. What would a build like that run?

That's been seeping a long time. You got enough to cut the exiting elbow at the wall side or are you gonna sweat it off?
