$1K investment an hour ago is $150k now

 

Just wanted to come here and say I have lost almost 40k on my 401k since January and it's getting harder to justify maxing out my contributions.
Talk some sense into me before I make a bad choice.

 

If only they'd let us know when things were gonna jump 20,000%

 

I stopped all my 401k and IRA contributions over a year ago once I learned they were locates for hedge funds to short and FTD so they could keep shorting.

Hedge fund: I want to short xyz stock

Prime broker/bank: Of course sir. I have locates on however many shares you might require, residing in the target date funds and ETFs of all these retirement accounts.

Hedge fund: Excellent, I'll pay the fee and take them!

*shorting intensifies*

Prime broker/bank: ring ring, hello other hedge funds, it seems there's some interest in shorting xyz stock right now, I have *generic number of shares* available, would you like the locates to short against?

Other hedge funds: Well that seems pretty swell. If the big firms are doing it, I should do that as well!

Big banks make a substantial portion of their revenue off of providing locates. The same banks you dump your 401k money into every month.

And, in a nutshell, that's why retirement funds are a scam.

Umm, we all probably see our balances at least 5 times a day. And that's per position. lol

 

The market goes up, the market goes down. It averages ~10% annually. Just keep contributing and it will eventually go back up.

I'd be willing to bet that future you will wish that current you had kept contributing. It's just hard to feel that way when it is down.
