Toyota Spyware

I am not a fan of Toyota’s telematics collecting data re: where and how I use my truck.

I have tried to opt out twice before and my requests have been ignored. They acknowledge that I have called, but the record shows “call disconnected.” Hawgwash. They read a disclaimer. I agree that I want it Off.

Anyone else experiencing this subterfuge?

It's the least of your worries. Your phone is collecting a ton more info. Plus don't forget that telematics can be your friend, too, if you're in an accident that's not your fault.

Yup, it's Friday. It amazes me how some people think anyone gives a shit about where they go or what they do.

 

Not only is it Friday but also Friday the 13th - going to be a great day on TW!!!

 

If you search around there's been a few posts on removing the telematics module. Not sure anyone has done it successfully. I'm not a fan of automated data collection either - especially since they don't tell you how its stored or who has access to it. I can always leave my phone at home, but the truck tends to go with me most places. Depending on who is in charge, that information could be a gold mine.

You're in the third gen section though, prepare for a thread full of unhelpful bullshit.

Ok, fair point. I just think people don't understand that the data only has value as meta data in numbers sufficient to do trend analysis for marketing purposes. I really don't think they have a nefarious reason for wanting to track where individual owners go.

The biggest and probably only reason that data is collected (From Cell phones, credit cards, value club's, GPS history, etc..) is to find a better way to market NEW items to you for you to buy. This is Facebook's entire business model and how they survive by the way. Marketing. They only want to market stuff to you.

Stop being so paranoid and thinking you're more important than you actually are people.
