@DCGirl Just get some aluminum flat bar, bolts and washers, and attach them in each corner of the X1 to the riv-nut and T-rail. Super simple and does not move at all.

 

Just wanted to introduce myself...
My name is Jeff and I'm a Toyotaholic. No, I don't own a Taco, but I do have its big brother!!
I'm on Tundras.com, but I wanted to join here bc I just put down my deposit on a SuperPacific Camper (Est October completion date) and I'm sure I will have lots of questions about various mods.
I live in Orange County (CA), but here is my rig (pre SP) out in Utah, so Yes... I Wheel!!

finally finished the wind fairing. i think it looks oem. the metal brackets holds it tight right to the camper now. and i have noticed a solid .5-1 mpg on long open road drives. around town it doesnt help.

This is high up on my list of MODS!!! Any issues with it hitting the roof when the bed flexes?

 

no. the prototype did. the metal is set high enough away from flex and has slots to adjust even higher if needed.

 

I'm sure you don't get as much flex on a jeep as we would with pickup trucks too...

 

What fans do you all use inside? Ill want 4 or.more.maybe, me and the dog will need some. No lt sure if clamp on or suction cup is the way to go. Ill have a battery solar generator with me. Delta mini. It can run powerful stuff.

Suggestions from those that have?

Howdy TW! I am getting an X1 installed later this year in the fall and have some questions for current X1 owners on 3rd gen tacomas. Any help answering these questions would be greatly appreciated!

1. What is the MPG impact of the x1 setup on a long bed tacoma? I currently run a snugtop rebel and am curious how much more MPG I will lose once I swap it with the X1

2. Do we lose satellite radio service once the X1 is installed? My 2022 taco has the shark fin on the roof and it seems like the X1 tent will cover it up. It would suck to have to give up satellite radio but not a major blocker to purchase.

3. Does anyone know if the cab side window on the X1 flips down at all? I love how I can flip the cab side window on my snugtop to clean the back window of the taco when needed.

4. I currently have steel sliders and aluminum full skids on stock suspension on my 22 DCLB. With the X1 installed is it recommended to upgrade suspension and/or leaf pack?
Any additional insights on the 'cons' of installing the X1 would be appreciated as well I have been lurking this thread for a while now and love all of the awesome builds yall are sharing. Cheers.

 

I had an idea to fold up the bed platform and hold it vertically instead of sliding and folding the mattress so this is what I came up with.

Anyone have a good suggestion for a storage box that doubles as a seat for the truck bed? Target bins aren't going to cut it and this would save the hassle of some kind of 80-20 build.

 

1. I was around 19 pre-camper in my 4.0L 2nd gen, now 17 but oddly no wind noise

3. Sadly no, I think some people run a bike tube around the space between cab and the camper and partially inflate it to keep the windows clean

4. Yes - I had steel skids (really only weight on the front) only and the camper was bottoming out on the stock leaf pack. Wheelers 3-leaf add a leaf has been awesome, brought the height back up to 1/2" above stock and the ride is much nicer.

Insight based on what I know:

1 - assume 1-2mpg and if you get better then you're stoked. Also depends on if you build out the camper and add more weight, of course.

2 - unsure

3- it does not. It does not slide open or flip down.

4- with your current configuration it wouldn't be a bad idea, but your truck won't blow up if you don't do it (it'll just drive like crap).

 

A few options:

1 - River rafting dry box: This is a cheaper brand which should hold up long enough. There are other brands that make beefier versions, but for more $ of course. You should be able to get a bench-length version

i got cheap prototype guinea pig testing price, basically cost. im not sure what they will sell for. they do the whole thing turnkey. They are at the same business park as me so it was easy to do lots of cardboard moch-ups before the final cnc cut.

 

just need a waterjet or router.. Super simple and easy to make.

 

1. Maybe 1 mpg or so? Hard to say as mileage differs a lot with forest road, freeway, city and secondary highway driving.
2. My xm radio became unusable, constantly cutting in and out. It was an easy fix though $30 total for an external receiver and an adaptor to plug it in your radio. Search my posts in this thread. If you can't find it I can re-post details when I get home. Regular radio has also been affected. Stations only come in when I am very close to their repeaters. This should be fixable by installing an antenna but I haven't got around to that.
3. It doesn't. That is something SP should address but I know they want to avoid any water intrusion. The inflated bike tube idea is actually quite genius. I hadnt heard of that but may have to try it.
4. The truck drove fine stock with X1 on it. I added a custom leaf to up capacity by 1000 lbs as I also carry a moto on a hitch rack. Still get some harsh bottom outs on abrupt bumps like speed bumps. Think I need to add air bags or better shocks to address that.

Can't think of any cons to the X1 except you'll find yourself wanting to go camping all the time
