I am getting squeaking coming from both of my front shocks where it mounts to the LCA. I have isolated it to this location because I am able to spray it with WD-40 which silences the squeak for a couple days at best. My question is, can I jack up the front end and remove the lower shock bolt to grease? If so, are there any negative implications like alignment that will need to be performed?

These are aftermarket shocks for reference (Elka)

What type of shocks do you have?

FYI, WD40 is a horrible lubricant. It does more to displace lubricant and should never be used as one.

Assuming you have an aftermarket shock with a small uniball bearing, use TriFlow to lubricate it. Your current bearings may require replacement.

If it's an OEM style shock with a rubber bushing, the bushing may be shot and need replacement.

@Bertw192 is right on WD-40

I think Elka uses a rubber bushing with a steel sleeve, in which case grease and not oil would be your best bet.

As to whether you can jack it up and remove the bolt, short answer, maybe.

If you jack it up high enough to fully droop the tires you’ll relieve pressure on the suspension, but not all of it. The only way to relieve all the suspension pressure is to separate a ball joint from the knuckle.

The easiest way (on your sanity) to get rid of squeaks is to just take it apart and grease it properly. Ask me how I know.
