My favorite is the theory that "they" invented selfies in order to populate the facial recognition databases. Instead of trying to obtain photos by subterfuge, they got people to willingly upload them complete with names. Bonus.

 

Well now I'll have to reconsider running for that public office, getting that promotion at work, etc!

 

Not just Government that worries me on this one ... how about when your insurance increases your monthly premiums by 18% out-of-the-blue one day and when you call up and ask why they explain, "Well, sir, a whole bunch of people whom you've never met, but who are related to you, submitted their DNA to this massive database and in doing so allowed us to determine that you are a high genetic risk for the following diseases: . . . ."

 

As I previously stated, there are other DCM services that I like.

 

Seems to me he values his privacy, that’s a little different than the sheeples who go “who cares? I got nothing to hide, put a cam in my bedroom if you want.”
This is why we have no privacy. Sheeples gonna be sheeples.

 

Your information is going to be farmed either way. I respect that some of you have problems with that, and want to make it harder for “them” because that makes you feel proactive.
But it’s going to happen wether you want it to or not.
If you aren’t living off grid are you fully protecting your privacy? How many of you are running your own private vpn server at home?
Being proud of making your privacy more difficult to violate is different than putting others down for accepting the inevitable.
Let people chose where they want to expend their energy/focus and accept that their choice may be different than yours

Can’t the DCM system start and stop the vehicle?

No server or software is beyond compromise, either malicious or accidental.

My main concern would be having a vehicle that won’t start because of a bad data transmission one day.

 

The wrong people could crawl under your car and install an independent device to do the same thing (in the same time as it takes someone to steal a catalytic converter) without having access to Toyota servers or technology. Or they could steal or build a spike strip to flatten the tires on that same secluded spot.

If you spend all of your time trying to eliminate bad things from happening, you're going to eliminate good things too.

How do we know that the OP is not trying to disconnect his truck to be able to break the law?

 

this could easily be prevented with a little regulation but people in this country would rather cry about socialism and communism than have affordable and equal health care.

 

Will the system also track your vehicle if it's ever stolen?

 

I have read a thread or two where folks have contacted Toyota due to stolen vehicle and Toyota was not able/willing to help

Some of us DON'T want more government regulations, and thus probably the same folks you are saying crying about things. If I was able to be political on the forum, I'd point out some things about your side and their crying too, lets leave that stuff at the door so to speak.

I think you are right.

 

Exactly! That's one of the phrases/attitudes that annoys me the most. "I have nothing to hide so I don't care". It's not about having a reason to keep (whatever) hidden or not having one. It's about the fact that people who have no right to the information....want it, and usually get it, anyway.

In order to do those things, someone would have to physically tamper with my vehicle or physically be at that secluded spot waiting on some random car to drive by. The technology we're talking about can be targeted to a specific person and done completely in secret (except, possibly, by the person being targeted...in the case of the secluded spot).
