Installing Locking Tailgate

Hello!

I got up close to a Taco at a recent auto show and was pretty excited at the prospect of buying one for my first vehicle. I was extremely disappointed at the lack of a locking rear tailgate.

I have seen the "poplock" one a few times. How do you guys like that or are there different, better options? Also, how satisfied with the install? I would appreciate your input!

I love this thing... Once I worked out the flaws (smear the entire moving section with lithium grease and bolster the back of it with closed cell foam to keep from 'twanging') this has worked flawlessly.

You 'wet-landers' may not want to use the closed cell foam as it may hold some moisture there... but you get the point I'm sure.

 

I like mine. It works fine.

I love my pop&lock. Works pretty well, just have to WD-40 it after the winter to keep the salt from binding it up. However, the tailgate latch doesn't operate quite as smoothly as it used to before the lock was installed, but it's a minor hassle you get used to. Protects from tailgate theft and secures stuff under the tonneau cover. Installed in like 15 minutes, real simple.

 

If you coat it with lithium grease you probably will not have to wd40 ever again!

I am guessing that is a substantial bit more work to have the lock wired into the truck's keyless entry and lock system?

 

Yeah but as long as you follow all the info available here, you can do it in about an hour. It's a great feature to have!

 

Mine works fine.No twang whatsoever.

 

I was a beta tester so it looks like they stiffened it.
