Lift kit shocks and struts questions

Hey y’all. I’ve been digging through posts but there are ALOT so I just wanted to ask a couple questions really quick.
Any recommendations on lift kit shocks and springs I was thinking the bilstein 5100’s over the 6112’s. I’m not a super avid off roader. I drive a lot of highway but hit trails and backroads looking for fishing holes and stuff. Can I get just the front and rears or should I get the set on Amazon with the wulf control arms and stuff? Trying to ball on a budget.

Are you planning to lift the truck or use the shocks at stock height? You should be fine with the stock UCA's.

 

I want a lift about 2.5” - 3”

 

Anywhere near or approaching 2.5" of lift it is recommended you get upper control arms.

 

I have 5100s front and rear. OME 887 coil springs and SPC upper control arms up front. Headstrong progressive add a leafs in the rear. It rides much better that the stock OR suspension. I drive 90% highway, some forest service roads, and I do several trips to the Outer Banks every year where we drive on the beach through lots of ruts. It works perfectly for what I do. I got about 2.5 inches of lift in the front, and about 1.5 in the rear. The only thing I would do different if I could do it over is a full leaf pack for the rear. I have a leer topper, I think the constant extra weight makes the rear sag more than it should. I bought the whole package from Headstrong about 4 years ago.

 

Curious what setting you have your 5100s set to in the front.

Definitely suggest a full leaf pack for the rear. Leer topper here too.

 

They are on the lowest clip setting. When you have OME springs, that is the recommended setting. Those coils are longer/taller that the factory springs.

 

Correct answer lol Some people put OME coils at the highest setting.....yikes.

 

Yeah…that wouldn’t work. The shock would be at full extension all the time. On the other hand, it would give you about 6 inches of lift! CV angles and wheel alignment be damned!

 

I have ALMOST the identical question, but not exactly so I'm hoping it's OK to add to this thread.

I have similar requirements as above (lockboxes with a topper, so +500 lb to start), but most of my highway driving is pulling a little trailer (+~300 lb), then driving on forest service roads (mostly) once I get there.

I'm planning to add the ICON RXT (option 3) since I don't want to wait for a custom leaf pack, and I don't really want/need a lift, other than getting my saggy rear end up (if only i could order that online for my actual rear end as well ;-) and having a rack to keep me reasonably level while pulling the trailer.

2009 TRD Pro with about 153k miles (almost all of them with the same setup described above, but bought it used about a year ago)

My questions:

- Would the Bilstein 5100/5100 combo make the most sense, given I'm not looking for a lift (just a match to the ICON pack) and don't do hardcore offroading?

- Or, given the extra load of pulling the trailer (sometimes on those fire roads), should i get beefier shocks?

- Finally, I have no clue which OME coil springs to get. I want to avoid lifting the front too much. I've done some googling but am still pretty confused about this one.
