I had this wretched transmission slip going from 2nd to 3rd, usually most noticeable while making slow corner turns. When the truck would be ready to downshift out of the turn, it would like shift into neutral, rev super high and then kick into gear, all within a second (resulting in thump and jolt). Also had instances of not shifting into 1st when applying gas from a stop. More recently I could literally hear a whine coming from the transmission. It drives much smoother now.

Here were my original issues, in a thread dedicated to this 3rd gen transmission problem: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...tly-from-factory.405642/page-60#post-27281240

I have those as well, they are a major improvement over the stock bulbs.

Hey guys, I have a sway bar end link that loosened. I went today to tighten the nut and it’s seized. I’m thinking I’ll have to cut it off and replace it because my truck makes a loud clunk and sounds like shit. Any of you ever had this issue? Any way around replacing the end link? Any suggestions on a stronger end link?

Take the sway bar completely off. Live that no sway bar life.

Otherwise, your threads are most likely fucked if the sway bar has been pounding on the links for a while. Rockauto.

Thanks I checked out that thread. I'll be opening up the transmission this summer for sure I'm due for a oil change. Hey, does the transmission pan gasket need replacing on pan removal? Assuming it does...

Hauled a bunch of wood chips from a ground up stump at our park. Used them to make the kids a neat little hang out area in the woods behind the house.

Replaced the front door speakers this morning. Went with Alpine R-S69.2's. I know everybody does Kicker but this is what sounded best to me using Crutchfield's comparison app on their website. I actually bought them about 2 years ago for my last truck but never got around to installing them. They look a little plain without the grill on:

Road Kill Speaker Enhancer - I was trying to figure out how to use this foam kit, but it didn't seem to work with the window glass being behind the speaker.

Also installed the driver's side door molle panel from Taco Vinyl. First project with the rivet nut setter. I was gathering up some items to install on it but it's just too damn hot outside right now.

not entirely sure bud. The procedure I had done at the shop didn’t involve cracking the trans open (as far as i know). I just did a top off, not a drain and flush. Only being at 42k myself, I was performing the 40k routine maintenance when my truck first started driving like a hiccup. Did my diff fluids, and while I was down there I set up my Icon rxt to setting 2 from 1. So at first I thought I had messed up my driveline/pinion angles. Did some down the list troubleshooting, got my alignment checked and made sure my torques and diff fluid levels were good. So it was just down to transmission. I’m tellin ya it was so noticeable in the way the truck drove. There’s videos on youtube. I was convinced I was the first ever 3rd gen to have really bad axle wrap without using blocks under my leaf springs lol. It drove me nuts for almost a month till I had the time to take it into my mechanic. Thank god I did. The truck drives like brand new now.

There was some kind of tubular structure running through back of the speaker hole. You would have to notch the back of the inside foam piece around this. Most of the adhesive area would be lost. Not sure if enough would have been left for it it stay put. Then you would have to make a notch along the top for the window to slide up and down. The idea of the kit is to create a seamless funnel to channel all the sound out the front. I didn't see how this would have been possible.

I ended up using a Dynamat speaker kit. It's just 2 12"x12" pieces of sound dampening material. It's meant to do 2 speakers, but you could easily use a full kit for each speaker. I figured it was better than nothing.

If you Dynamat the plastic door panels as well this will improve the base as well as reduce road noise.
