Well, what probably makes the most sense is something like "Pro 22.1" where "22" is the year and "1" is the month of release. What sounds more bad ass IMO is "Pro+ XL". Then you can do "Pro+ XLR" and
Pro+ XLRR" and so on and so forth until it sounds like a tune I should have applied to my Supra.

    John,

I really appreciate the kind words! I’m now headed to to TN for vacation. Maybe when back in area in June for the Howard Hill Classic we can do lunch or you come shoot a round of archery.

My vote is something brand new. For many of the OG's, they understand the differences between each tune is essentially just a variation of a solid improved base tune (and maybe I'm just completely wrong, but if so, it proves my point). For little sized brain people like myself, we've seen KDMAX thrown around all over, and it mean something completely different to different people. That can be good or bad. For all the Pro/Pro+ users, they praise KDMAX (hopefully); for the 1.0/2.0/4.0/Kruiser/whatever else exists out there folks, that people intentionally or unintentionally call the "KDMAX tune", KDMAX potentially gets a less than satisfactory review.

That being said, I'd support a brand new name for a new tune, because I can't keep up with them lol. I'm also just hoping for things to eventually settle and we really rest on a tried and true 2 or 3 variations of the final tune (with customization available obviously).

Keep “KDMAX” in it for sure (Pro Tuner's have business cards and advertisements already using this for business purposes) and branch from there with any new increments.

love the tune made huge difference. 33" tire and 5.29 gears. if i knew the tune existed before maybe i wouldn't have put in the gears. running kdmax pro+ with lite throttle.
my only recommendation i would give is to hold first gear a little big longer.

    Tune review alert :)

I’m an OG guy that’s been using OVTUNE and VF Tuner from long ago (1.3 days) My truck is a 2017 AT DCOR. It has had so many variations of tunes on it, I have lost count. (20-30) My truck has 85,000 miles on it.

Anyhow, Kreg asked me to share my thoughts, so here goes.

This will be for the Pro + tunes.

I have tried all 3 throttle versions and for a stock truck with stock gears and tires, the normal throttle works best for me.

I used to run premium fuel, but with fuel prices skyrocketing, I went back to regular. I really like the way the regular fuel and this tune run. My observations…. First, my mileage went up using regular fuel. Second, the initial tip in on the throttle was a little less jerky (for lack of a better word). Probably due to less ignition timing for the regular octane fuel. Anyhow, both these were nice discoveries, so thought I’d share. I really like the way this tune acts on regular fuel!

The Pro+ tune is awesome to drive! I do like the increased shift points. It revs when you want and need it to, and if you’re off the throttle, it shifts when it should.

The only ideas I would have for a better all around tune (hint, hint) would be to have the lite throttle ect version in D, and still have my normal ect version when I select ect.

With different people driving the vehicle, this would allow (say my teen driver) to have a little less touchy throttle and me to have all the fun in ect.

Regardless of which tune you go with, you’ll be amazed. Kreg and Dave have done their homework and have an awesome product! Also, their customer service is nothing short of amazing!

You will never have buyers remorse investing in this tune.

Hope this helps some of you folks considering this tune, to pull the trigger.

This truck really is fun to drive again with this KDMAX Pro+ tune!

Geoff @Cvtaco brought his really clean 2017 extended cab in. He needed updating wanted the Pro+ with Normal throttle.
He texted me letting me know he loves his truck now. He cant wait to see how it tows his camping Trailer.
Let us know how your truck does towing Geoff. We can always make some custom changes if needed.

Okay - I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the KDMAX Tune this week. 2017 TRD Sport (mostly stock - slightly larger tires - but no lift etc). It's my daily driver, but I do tow a camper with it a couple times a month Spring/ Summer/Fall. I rented a 2022 4x4 SR5 Tacoma recently (by luck at National) and was super jealous of the way it shifted compared to my 2017 with the latest TSB.

Intitially I was thinking the Standard KDMAX Tune (Normal or Sport), but reading some recent posts (I haven't read all 283 pages) on the PRO+ on Stock - is there any reason NOT to go with PRO+ on a Stock V6 Truck?

Driving style: When I launch - I want to truck to just GO (smoothly) without the stupid drama. Not trying to win races, but sick of the gear hunting, dumping into 6th gear at 45mph, and if I hit the slightest hill on the interstate having it drop from 6 to 4 and screaming like I floored it. And cruise control.... forget it... it sucks.

Also @Stormpeacock @PapaRee what does ECT do after the tune?

    Advice?

I would go with the Pro+ with either the Normal or Lite throttle setting. You will be able to test drive both to see what fits your driving style.

My first tune was the aggressive throttle which I didnt like. Dave came back for a group tune a couple months ago with the MaxPro+ and turned me back to Lite and I couldn’t be happier. All around the best F’ing upgrade(s) anyone could ask for! I especially like how at freeway speeds it’s almost like the truck doesn’t want to go into 6th gear and seems like it’s never in the wrong gear, unlike the stock shit tune they force on the masses. Worth every dollar, thanks Dave. Again!

Your ECT will work as it does for the stock tune. It will hold each gear a little longer. The ECT will help with towing.
