Good to know. I've not head anything bad about milwaukee durability, and they seem to be very popular amongs the people that use them all the time. If my makita collection ever catches fire, I'd probably consider moving over.

I will say, DeWalt angle grinders are way smoother than Milwaukee variants.

Even then, I run a Metabo-HPT at my shop that my wife got me. Best $40 bucks spent on a grinder that's used nearly everyday for random stuff.

I think the reason my friend started looking at hitachi is he's got a real nice radial arm saw made by them. I used it with an aluminum cutting blade to cut the bleachers for my bed and it was real nice.

I can't get a good fix on dewalt these days. 20 years ago they were the shit, now they're pretty mid-pack, I think.

Daynm. That looks like HWY 123 the road that we take to get to our off-road world. I see he is in Ontario though.

Same reason I went Hitachi/HPT--I bought into the system for their homeowner/woodworking tools.

I tried Milwaukee and Makita as well. If I were buying just for automotive, I'd go M18 easily (although DeWalt's latest crop of impacts might make me think twice). I thought the Fuel drill/impact set I tried were noisy and didn't feel smooth. Powerful, but not pleasant. One of them (I don't remember if it was the drill or driver) had a soft start that drove me nuts and I didn't see a way to turn it off.

I liked Makita's subcompact 18v drill/driver, but shortly after I bought the tools, Makita announced their 40v platform. I didn't want to buy into a brand-new platform but also didn't want to buy into a platform that seemed to be getting replaced.

Hitachi/HPT has a much smaller tool line, and they are missing a few things I'd really like (namely 3/8" impacts and a better mini-recip/hackzall), but the tools I do have (subcompact drill, triple-hammer impact driver, compact and mid-torque impact wrench, 6 1/2" circular saw) have all been enjoyable and unfussy to use. Their 36v cordless routers (both the plunge and the trim router, although the latter isn't currently sold in the US market) look great.

I also have the same angle grinder that @Kwikvette has. I don't have experience with any other grinders, but I've got no complaints with this one. I doubt you can do much better for $40 (and I think I got mine on sale for $30 to boot)

Nothing wrong with any brand. Just all depends if that brand has the tools you want and what your willing to pay.

Or maybe more accurately, there's something wrong with all the brands, you just have to figure out what's important to you.

I'm still pretty jealous of the M12 Stubby and M18 mid torque for their size, and the M18 Hackzall a guy loaned me at the junkyard once was a lifesaver.
