Today I went in for an oil change at a new place since I recently moved and was told I had two options. Full Synthetic Valvoline and Partial Synthetic Valvoline Maxlife. I have a 2016 2.7L Tacoma. Has anyone used Partial Synthetic oil in their 3rd Gen? I went with the Full Synthetic as this is what I have put in since day one.

I don't think there is anything wrong with partial synthetic. But I don't understand why they even make it. I'd use full synthetic

I didn't even realize 0W-20 was available in anything other than full synthetic.

Probably a recycled product mixed with synthetic?

Partial is probably Group 3 base oil while full is Group 4. The U.S. is loose with what it allows to be labeled synthetic. There's partial synthetic(synthetic), full synthetic and 100% synthetic. People tend to conflate full and 100%
If it meets the ILSAC requirement, don't sweat it.

Your truck came from the factory with full synthetic, stick with that.

Synthetic blend is supposed to give you some of the benefits of full synthetic but a little cheaper. It’s just a synthetic base mixed with conventional. There are plenty of brands in 0-20 but I’ve never really seen the point. I would just go with what you have always used whatever that is.

Looking at the price of Amsoil full synthetic versus some others like Valvoline, Pennsoil, Quaker State, etc, I'm wondering if it is really worth it.

I buy my oil at my local dealer: Genuine Toyota, handy and at a fair price.

I thought that too, went to the Valvoline web site and was surprised that they offered it.

I actually really like Max Life for my older Toyota engines that are ok with a blend (5w-30). Cool that they make a 0w-20.

Synthetic-blend...says so in the second sentence.
Like I said, they play it loose in the U.S. They're allowed to call it full synthetic. The synthetic base stock portion is still a Group 3/3+(hydrocracked crude). Only Group 4 and Group 5 are true 100% synthetic

Yes, I posted that as a reply to a previous post that 0W-20 was suspected to be a syn only product.
Reading the Valvoline product date sheet I was surprised to find a syn-blend product offered and thought others might find it interesting.
