Turkey hunting and BS welcome!

Lots of deer

 

So about 20 minutes after I posted this I got up to make a move . Walked probably 200 hundred yards quietly down a logging road and BOOM down in towards bottom of property I hear a gobble . Quickly set up on the side of a hill for fear of being spotted and give a call . Gobbles back . Spotted him twice . Once at 150 and again around 100 yards . He probably came within 60-70 yards but that’s it . Then he went away and gobbled twice more . By that time it was noon . Done .

 

Be there tomorrow, around the same time and down where you heard gobbling.

 

Had to sleep in today . Too much stuff to do . Hunted 10 days out of twelve so far .

 

I usually burn the candle at both ends during spring turkey season.

 

Couldn’t roost a bird tonight. Have something to do tomorrow and have to leave here at 10:30 am so sleeping in again .

 

Been a heck of a season in Illinois. We don’t have a ton of birds but lucky enough to have some decent farms to hunt. 3rd and 4th season were . Got 1 tag left for Nebraska!

Took the last 2 days off from hunting and I’m still tired . 10 early morning wake up calls did me in maybe cause I turned 60 last month
I will be up tomorrow and back at it .

 

Thee elusive ME ! No wonder those turkeys can’t find me

 

Heading out in the morning with one of my kids he still has his 3rd tag to fill . This time of year is rough gotta be up at 1:30 to get to the spot.

 

I thought I had it rough getting up at 0400. How far do you have to drive?

About 45 minutes to get myself and the kid out the door 90 minute drive 45 minute hike in. With sunrise at 5:25 birds will be awake at 445 so we need to be at our listening spot by 430

 

Had a disappointing season so far. Had one big tom come in following 2 hens. Put shot on him at 19 yds, rolled him backwards, did a couple flops around. Then got up a flew away. Never saw anything like it.

 

Out the door we go. Gonna rain till about an hour after shooting light. Hopefully the birds wanna play along today.

Might have to put my trespass boots on the middle of the week. That’s where I killed 2 birds last year . Next year the solar panels are going in over there and I hope all the turkeys move to this side of the road . The exact place I shot 2 birds is being clear cut (40) acres for panels . A total of 300 acres . I want a tax break or free electric

 

First bird gobbled this morning at 4:40 am I was already at my spot waiting to sit .
