My first thought was ancient rubber but I see the car has the current Avon stuff the vintage F1 ciruit uses. Charles has some splainin' to do methinks.

So does that tell how much more talented the earlier drivers were?

Earlier drivers def didn't have all the nannies todays drivers do. Newer drivers have known no different and have become dependent on them.

Agreed. The golden days of F1 were driven one-handed with the same HP and half the downforce.

True, but there is a lot of support that they get through the comms on various systems. It would be nice to remove tire temperature sensors for example.

Pretty sure back in the days they had support also. They had active suspension and even TC in 90 till all that was banned in 94 so I bet if they had the tech back in those days I bet they would have used it.

The newer cars have numerous sensors on them, everything from brake temps, tire data, fuel trim etc, etc. Drivers nowadays are almost to the point of being told when to go nite nite and when to pee. I'm not saying they don't work their butts off driving the cars anymore, just saying they have a ton of data at their disposal while doing so. Traction control and Anti lock brakes aren't the only nannies in existence.

Completely agree with you. I think people forget that this is racing and a sport. Not a spectacle to see for fun. They are trying to beat the rivals and every bit of info they can get to try and get a advantage is worth it. And I bet you that if they had that info back in the days they definitely would have used it also

Racing is racing and these guys do a great job but remember Lando back in 2020 when he was being talked through the last lap to catch Hamilton. Being told what scenarios to use and when, exactly how long to hold the overtake and when. That’s where I feel there’s a bit too much comms even though I’m a Lando fan.

Same with tyres, let the driver figure out what’s happening and not the techs back in the uk saying rear left is 2’ too hot…

This type of racing always evolves and so it should… however they should definitely bring back the grid girls.
    upload_2022-5-17_8-8-2.jpg

FYI more pics of grid girls is fine…
