Yep, very messy. Reason i ditched the fluid flim every year for something much more longer lasting like cosmoline. Hard to beat if using it on a new truck....and even that stuff is real messy. You need to suit up in one of those 3m coveralls, and safety glass's with a large tarp under the truck if done in the garage, or on the driveway.

the joke here on TW is to not look so as to not lighten your wallet. I think that should be amended to 'read the cosmoline threads and then disable your TW account'

cosmoline on a new rig is a must-and almost universally accepted to be good for your rig and a money saver down the line.

i think im about $300 into cosmoline and several messy nasty evenings

FF is best for slowing existing rust

im not sure about Krown but it cant be $100 and no one will do it as well as you would on your own truck anyway

'pro' tip- by some throwaway pillows from wal mart to make laying on the ground more comfortable, and some throw away wash cloths to clean up in the shower

german cars are heavily cosmolined and waxed from the factory

My 2022 does not have any coating on the frame. There is some of the adhesive they use where the two frame sections are joined, maybe that is what you are seeing?

Yes they will and yes undercoating having a shop undercoat your truck is only about $130 CAD / $100 USD if you do the exchange. If you're not drilling holes and spraying inside your rocker panels, up in behind your fenders, on the back side of the bedsides, etc you're not doing as good a job as they can. Never had a problem with Krown.

Edit: I'm actually intrigued by the Cosmoline information I'm reading. I might get a few gallons to do the underside of my 2022 when it shows up. Will stick with Krown after though.

I sprayed the underside of my 2010 myself (started with motorcycle chain wax lubricant because I had a case left over from my old bike, then went to CRC). Good news, the frame still looked good when I traded the truck in 12 NH winters later. Bad news was i didn’t qualify for any frame replacement (but did have to let Toyota spray it once to get their extended frame replacement warranty).

The only reason I traded the old truck in was because I was falling out of the frame coverage 12 year replacement period and replacing a frame in a couple years would cost more than the truck was worth.

Plus, I was able to market time it (luckily) where I got crazy trade value for the old truck ($20k) and he new OR at MSRP, no mark-up.

The new truck goes to New Hampshire Oil Undercoating ever September for an annual spray. It isn’t that expensive and I’m happy to avoid the mess.

I do keep a few cans of CRC around to hit the hitch and leaf hangers periodically over the winter (basically any component that hangs low and gets beat on while driving).

If I get another 12 years out of this new truck like the last, I’ll be happy.

Is this so called adhesive sort of white and sticky? My 2020 had that crap on the frame near the cab doors. Otherwise the frame was painted or coated with a heavy black paint.
As far as the cosmoline no $300 of it spent on my truck....maybe about a third. Gotta admit, the cosmoline coating still looks good after two very salty winters here. If fluid flim i would have done the job over at least twice.

Just a note of caution if using cosmoline...its good stuff as long as you only use it alone. Don't spray it on a chassis thats been already coated with fluid film, or the likes. Don't spray fluid flim, or other stuff similar over cosmoline either. You'll end up with a dripping mess like you just oil your truck chassis, and it will stay that way till it wash's off.
