i have found a used ECU will it work if i write the VIN with techstream as getting the VF tuner will take alot of time due to shipping international
do we have a discount for VF tune as Tacoma world forum

How does a older user get the one time registration for openpot tactrix cable?

Starting with version 1.6.0:
- Standard openport tactrix cables will not be functional with the software - (with exception to older users) new users must use our cables. Older users can register a standard openport one time.

I just installed 1.6 with the tactrix plugged in and it registered successfully.

 

This is epic. Laptop will be here tomorrow, Tactrix 2.0 Saturday. Now maybe I can finally figure out wtf is wrong with my truck and narrow down this pile of chassis codes.

Your walkthrough worked like a charm…. Took me all of 5 minutes to have my truck fixed, cleared some historic ABS codes and re-calibrated zero point. All problems solved.

Definitely gonna need some help from the community.
In attempting to update the CUW file 04A61 for 2018 model year I’m getting this pop-up (1st image)also closed the TechStream software and ran only the CUW file and no matter if I follow the prompts it doesn’t proceed beyond. Additionally the info dash showed up with a message about ‘vehicle brake and to visit dealer’ upon starting the vehicle it appears to be in limp mode. Idles up and down and gas pedal doesn’t do anything.
Waited a few minutes and it starts fine and no messages on the info dash.
What the fuck did I do?

Had previously flashed a Magnuson update in March/2022 with no issues at all. That file was (2nd image) done through VFTuner.
There is a great deal of pages in this thread so apologize if this has been a previously solved problem.

You flashed the update by launching the CUW file, not from within TS?

You're engine is off when you flash right. Ignition On, Engine off.


If you flashed successfully and are getting those issues, then something is up. Did you flash the new Magnuson tune over top of the ECU Update? The ECU Update puts you on a stock tune with a new ECU ID. You went from 04A60 to 04A61, right? If so, you need the 04A61 tune from Magnuson.


Depending on where you are at, @mavrick6382 is in AZ and might be able to help if things are not solvable.

 

You are going to have to use vftuner first to flash to a stock tune, then do the TSB update.

I hadn’t got to the tune for Maggy yet as I was attempting to complete the TSB update with the CUW as instructed. I believe the issue is as @PapaRee stated so I’ll put the stock tune back to factory and give the CUW file a go again to see if that does the trick.

edit: a few hours later and the help of @tonered and boom the ECU is up to date. Took collective 6 min for both processes. Now I wait on maggy and YW tunes. This was great and your collective knowledge made this possible.

 

About to buy vftuner in the coming days to flash my truck with the kdmax pro+ tune, can I update my ecu with the cable that comes with vftuner or do I have to spring for tactrix and the software as well?

 

Yes you can use the cable that comes with the vftuner kit.
