I have a 2020 Pro and have been using Bluetooth to play my iPhone music. Last week I decided to try Apple CarPlay with a USB cord…..my gosh, what a difference in sound quality. The wired CarPlay music sounds so much better but I hate having to connect it to a USB cord. I now find myself forgetting my IPhone in my truck all the time.

I was wondering if anyone has tried a Wireless CarPlay adapter? Wireless CarPlay would prevent me from forgetting my phone all the time. My concern is if I used an adapter, would I lose any of the fantastic sound quality my wired CarPlay puts out.

looking for info and advice from my friends here on Tacoma World.

Yep, I have the CarPlay2Air wireless adapter. It’s decent but my major issue is that you can’t use wifi when you’re using it because your phone has to connect to the wifi generated by the adapter.

I use a wifi hotspot on long trips so that I don’t waste all my data and that’s also what I got the wireless adapter for…so it kinda sucks because I can’t use it as I wanted.

But that’s just because of how I use it. Functionally it’s pretty good.

I use the CarlinKit bought off Amazon. I cannot tell the difference between wired vs wireless CarPlay in terms of audio quality. I listen to music a ton, and I am by no means an audiophile. There is some latency with the wireless adapter however. I would not use the wireless adapter for calls, instead I use airpods for that (I know, using airpods while driving isnt the smartest of ideas).

I do have the JBL system. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks guys! My only concern is sound quality. I was blown away on the improved sound quality over Bluetooth when I first tried CarPlay last week. It sounded like an entirely upgraded stereo system!

Sound quality on mine has been the same as when it’s connected via a cord just FYI, since I didn’t mention that before.

I have CarPlay2Air wireless adapter. It works most of the time, but occasionally I have to restart it by unplugging it. I notice no difference between sound quality between wired and wireless. On long trips when using google maps for navigation and apple music, I prefer wired as the battery stays charged on the Iphone. The cell phone battery wears down very fast using google maps and apple music on CarPlay2Air wireless.

Hardwired output is always going to be better than wireless in terms of quality. CarPlay will probably be better than Bluetooth alone, but will not be equal to or greater than hardwired

I have the same problem with the CarPlay2Air not connecting occasionally - but just unplug it and plug it bac in and it's fine. To solve the power issue I have a Course Motorsports Auto Grip charging phone holder. Still need to hard-wire it so it's plugged into the power outlet.

I bought the wireless dongle but I stopped using it. I got complaints from whoever I talk to on the phone that I sound shitty.

I personally don’t mind the wire being attached to my phone. It’s bright neon yellow lol.

I too have a Carplay2air. I find myself unplugging and plugging it in a fair bit. I just saw a deal for the carlinkit 3.0 for $50 and may give it a try for that price.

I use CarPlay2Air and the problems I have with it are the same I have when using a cable directly to the unit. The JBL headunit in the '21 seems to be the failure point.
