You can find any part of the truck if you know what you're looking for, or just simply try. Look from the side, use a mirror, open one eye and squint real hard, its there. I tend to agree with you here though, I don't expect any dealer to give that much effort, and is the reason I do my own oil changes.

There is a torque spec for everything on modern vehicles. They are mass produced, the tooling is all set to spec and checked periodically. Nobody has to think/feel anything on the line. Every vehicle and every subcomponent rolls off the line the same. That's how you quickly and consistently produce a quality product.

I can only imagine the mess a modern vehicle would be if every worker on the line just feel'd it out. Does it all need to be that exact, no, but that's how it is done to be consistently and correctly assembled everytime.

    That would be mighty odd.
The Chevette was a brand new model for 1976 and as odd as it sounds now was the most advanced and modern car in the GM lineup.

Had a '70 Mustang myself with drums on all 4 corners. I agree with you on the braking...never knew how well it was going to stop or not stop each time.

You are correct that the stock skid plate does not have a drain hole. I change my oil myself and with all of the leak issues that have been discussed on this thread, I will be checking for any type of leak before I put the skid plate back on. Never really thought that much about it until now.

The forgotten Apollo, 2 years only before being renamed Skylark.
Chev 250 six or the Buick 350 V8?

Olds 350 Rocket. Had one owner 50K miles..included the owner's manual, window sticker, sale contract in the glovebox. Paint was faded but no bad rust/rot..full vinyl roof with no tears just dirty.

Plan was to hype it up some. Key word, was. Ended up needing the money more for school and sold it

I had a Skylark with the odd fire Buick V6, the muffler rusted out frequently and the odd fire engine had a most excellent boom - boom exhaust rumble. It sounded like a cammed up V8 idling.

Can we assume this situation is basically resolved? OP is getting a new truck on trade. The only lingering question is if the dealer gives him a true swap, which would be awesome…but I have no faith the dealership would do that.

While all dealerships will not be identical and certainly there will be some dealerships who have oil changes done by specific, less skilled, less trained mechanics, often there are just not enough stand alone oil changes to make it economically feasible for dealerships to have dedicated oil change mechanics. Often the oil change will be part of other services that will require a higher degree of skill/training. I worked as a service advisor for 6 months and found that much like most work places there were plenty of work politics, nice mechanics, prima-donnas, egotistical entitled assholes, etc, etc. There was always a balancing act assigning who received what jobs as the 30/60/90K full services could be completed in about half the time they paid by a good mechanic so if a mechanic had a day with two 30K services and one or two other small jobs they could get paid for a 15 hour day and only actually work 8 hours or less. Certainly the more challenging/unique jobs went to the more experienced mechanics and there were times that a particular issue would stump a less experienced mechanic and a veteran mechanic would lend a hand to help complete the job.

Now all bets are off in the COVID era as who knows what dealerships are having for problems with shortages of employees.
