Oil change disaster advice needed

@Rannyhill - I would drag it out another 6 weeks or so and then you'll end up in a 2023 (last of the 3rd gens) and have the truck you want. Good luck!

 

With the supply issue I don’t think 6 weeks is much of a stretch. Do you know what month Toyota typically starts pushing out the latest year models?

 

I think it used to be Jul/Aug time frame but with supply issues it may be later in the year now. I'm sure there are more knowledgeable people on here that can provide better info.

 

In 2019 my brand new Ford F250 (under 3k miles) started to knock. A few pictures got Ford to understand my side of the story real quick.
They bought the truck back at full purchase price & refunded the sales tax $$.

 

I highly doubt the 2023 model Tacoma's will be out in 6 weeks, probably more like September or October.

there are a few trd sports 4x4 scheduled to be delivered to a few dealerships in the atlanta area from what im seeing. I think your dealership should bargain with one of them to get you what you want asap.... but honestly if they arnt motivated there's not much you can do. (or they all could be tagged to a new owner. Likely)

 

It’s my understanding that most that are shown “in transit” are already spoken for.

 

Your understanding is pretty accurate. I don't imagine they're going to rip a truck away from someone who already has a deposit on it. (Not saying that doesn't happen for other paying buyers, but I wouldn't expect it for your case)

 

Possibly the remedy could be that you take back your truck with a written agreement that when one becomes available the transaction can be completed. A deftly written agreement can be executed easily and should include the models, colors &/or specs that would be acceptable.

 

I would just keep driving the loaner, make your normal payment, but make dam sure the the dealership puts something in writing. Driving the loaner is keeping the miles off "your" vehicle, so that's a plus. Soon it will be time for another oil change and the tech can practice on their loaner.

When I ordered my 2017, I got it around November and I had ordered it at the near end of the 2016 run in August I think it was.

 

I'd advise against it. Stay in the loaner. This ensures you don't add additional wear and tear on your 'potentially damaged' truck, dropping the trade in value, or wreck it in the meantime.

 

NO KEEP THE LOANER!!! do everything possible to not touch the "bad oil change" truck

 

If I’m not mistaken, I believe that @farmtacoma had that exact thing happen to her (thread was on here somewhere). Had a deal pending and the dealer sold to someone else. She managed to get Toyota and the dealer to make it right in the end.

 

@Rannyhill, since you’re driving their loaner, is it possible to suspend the insurance (and payments) on your truck and save some $$$ until the dealer sorts this whole thing out?
Just thinking out loud and figured you might save a few hundred dollars if this keeps dragging on.....

 

I’m hoping it doesn’t drag on long enough for that to make a huge difference. I recently paid up insurance for a year. I’m pretty confident since I’m in their loaner that they’ll do whatever is within the power of a dealer to expedite a delivery. These are interesting times we are living in. This is by far the worst all around supply issue I’ve experienced in my lifetime (not limited to automobiles).

 

when i got a loaner for recall work they needed me to prove i had insurance. I think thats part of using their loaner.

 

I think your insurance is covering the loaner while you have it. I wouldn't suspend your insurance.

 

I would not suspend your insurance. You are still the legal owner of your truck. Until everything works out with the dealer(far from certain at this point) you want coverage in case anything happens to it in their possession.

 

There's NO WAY I would drop insurance on my vehicle as long as my name was on the title.
