Well said. I've known guys who have owned Toyotas for decades, and they are still driving their old trucks. They'll tell you how reliable they are and that they've done nothing but routine maintenance. But when they give details, that is 'IF' they give details, you'll find that they've replaced a crap ton of parts on them. Of course, almost anything will be reliable if you replace a lot of the parts with new ones over time.

And how the truck is driven makes a WORLD of difference as to how reliable it is. If you have it as a daily driver, chances are you're not beating on it day in/day out; you need it to get you to the office on Monday. On the other hand, if it's a weekend toy, you can beat the snot out of it, but stuff is gonna break.

In the end, nearly all 'new' trucks (those made in the last 10 years or so) should have no issues running up to the 150-200,000 mile mark with PROPER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. Take care of the truck, and the odds are in your favor it'll take care of you.

 

I'd say when the press release come from Toyota itself that would be best.

I've owned Toyotas since 1995 and had issues with them as with any vehicle but compared to any American truck or car I had the reliability and dependability is much higher than any other vehicle. Not doing the maintenance that Toyota recommends will most likely cause issues more frequently. Typically people that don't follow their maintenance schedule think they know better than the Toyota engineers or just don't read the manual. I have no sympathy for them.

 

Yep. I have family members with both import and domestic trucks with 200,000+ miles. They also take care of them. Like I said, most vehicles, if properly maintained, will treat their owners with years of service.

 

I never had that same luck with domestic as with a Japanese car. Too many years of heartache between Ford and Chevy products. Even when meticulously maintained something wold break almost every week it seems.

Was definitely sarcasm, been saying this for years now after plenty of inside posts since the mid refresh and dialogue with those who actually know, people just seem to continue to be "experts" here and disregard.

Yep, pretty much everything is good anymore it is all how you treat it. Have owned Toys from the 22R days, meticulously maintain and still had to replace the engine in one of the trucks at 125K, that is supposed to be one of their best engines too.

Had a kid wanting to buy my 1st Gen that has 434K on, he said to me “those are supposed to be really reliable!” …I quipped back “son…it hasn’t been reliable for a very long time…want to see the stack of repair receipts?” anything will last if you are ok with fixing it.

 

I like how they brag about having the most standard power with 103 horsepower. Boy, times have changed.

Again, well said. It's refreshing to hear comments like yours as opposed to the blanket statements like "All Fords are junk!" "Toyotas are the best!" "That (insert truck brand/model here) will never last." I'm not sure where these guys get their data from, or if they've even owned the trucks/vehicles they're criticizing (which is doubtful; they just regurgitate what they see online or on YouTube). IMHO, they have biases that are readily exposed by comments like this.

One thing I've noticed is that some vehicle's owners, and trucks are one of them, guys take any negative comments personally. If you criticize a particular make/model of truck, the owners of said truck come out of the woodwork defending it, like you just made fun of their mom or sister. And brand "loyalty" is another thing I just don't get. Buy what works for you, your needs, and your budget. You may be a "Toyota guy" but if you need a truck to routinely tow a huge boat, horse trailer, or carry loads of material & tools, a 3/4 or 1 ton is probably your best bet.

Anyway...rant off. That was a lot of words to say I agree with you, lol!

 

Well thank god there are 3rd gen v6 Tacomas going past 300k miles. Or at least 50% more longevity.

Japanese is definitely more reliable and within japanese, Toyota and Honda are at the top.

Also, I am still waiting for you to provide an example of an inline 3 liter, non turbo engine with more torque than the 3.5L V6 in the Tacoma. Found one yet?

Until the data is compared side by side, really no way of telling whether a vehicle is reliable or not. Otherwise it just an anecdotal opinion. Plus a vehicle’s reliability varies wildly on a case by case basis.

We have owned just about every brand for our construction business, I do like the Toyotas as my person vehicle, but as they say “if it has tits or wheels it is gonna give ya trouble.”

My 1st Gen quit being reliable at 90K miles, as that was its first major repair, timing belt and water pump. Went down hill ever since, while it never left me stranded…like I said took an awful lot of repairs to get to 434K. It is sitting now in need of head work among other things. Needs about $5-6K of work thrown at it. Tired of fixing it, finally gave in and bought a new truck.

 

Can’t get them here, but a quick glance at the Australian Ford Barra 195 Non turbo, 288 ft lbs at 3250 rpm.

Good motor though. Now transfer to the USA market for smog and safety, and lets see the real reading. So not a relative comparison.

Take the Toyota 4.5 Liter straight 6. FZ engine. It made 275 ftlbs of torque.

The 3.5 L lexus version of the V6 makes 311 bhp and 280 ft-lbs.

Looks like maybe Army Green is getting dropped for 2023. Its not available on the Trail Edtion and Electric Lime is getting added to the other trims.

 

I would love this. Makes the AG a bit more unique Been seeing more of them lately. I was the first in the neighborhood with one but now there are 3!
