Pretty nice! Better grab it. They have very simple carbs. Clean it and fresh mix and you are off and running.

Well, the valves were good lol. Not a big shock, just was hoping to be wrong. It's ok though, because the Con Rod and Head Gasket seemed to be in a race to fail and the HG may not have won, but it was close to blowing out anyways. Off to FBM to find the Siamese twin for this thing and rob its motor.

Alright, so here's the problem. I have a Deere L130 mower and its symptoms are as follows: Always starts fine as long as the battery is charged. will not always engage the PTO for the mower deck unless I lift my butt off the seat until the tractor starts to shut down then I sit back down to keep it going, then engage the PTO again. the hour meter doesn't turn on until I can get the PTO to engage. Ive recently replaced the seat sensor, fuses, and the PTO switch. any ideas short of replacing the entire wire harness? this has been going on for a while now but its getting more prevalent.

The simplest and cheapest place to start is to rule out any corrosion in the wire connections. I'd unplug every multi-wire connection, check it for corrosion, and put some dielectric grease in it. My Kawasaki wouldn't start because of a corroded plug. No spark to running fine with multi-plug cleaning.

Ive tried that with all the ones I could find and when it won't engage I usually run through them all again. It always happens when im in the biggest hurry.

With the hour meter being intermittent it makes me think the key switch isn't working right. Have you taken a look at it and its plug?

Not in depth, but if its running wouldn't that mean the key switch is ok? it cranks everytime. is there a separate connection for hour meter that also serves as a safety switch for the PTO? I wish I could just bypass all of it.

What do you mean if the battery is charged?

Have you put a meter on the battery while it's running to verify that you have 13+ish volts?

As for the hr mtr, it should be clocking hrs as long as the key is on. It does not mater if the engine is running.

    I'm intrigued. I love a good mystery.

Haha well you've got one. the meter doesn't always run. or if it is, its in the background with no display on. I haven't pinpointed a rhyme or reason for its operation yet. but I have noticed that the PTO won't engage if the display isn't on. so I sit there looking like a dummy bouncing around and wiggling things until I get the motor to stumble by safety switch and the display to turn on. its a dumb old battery that im lazy and cheap and won't replace because as long as I run it enough or throw it on the charger it keeps starting her. I have not put the meter on the battery while she's running, but if she's running, would the battery stop the PTO from engaging?

My FIL had a similar thing happening with his JD x300. He ended up changing the battery and it was fine afterwards.

well a battery is cheaper than the wire harness. I guess ill make that my next replacement. it still seems to start her everytime though which is the weird part.

    Most definitely.

The magnets in the electric clutch draw 10- 25 amps/hr. If the battery depletes below 10 volts, the engine will most likely shut down.

The pros can run a commercial unit for 5 hours before the machine will shut down as long as the battery was charged the night before.

Charging issues can drive you nuts!

Yank it out, charge it up, and take it to your auto parts store and have them load test it.

Yes, because the surface charge is depleted. Let the unit sit for an hour and the thing starts right up. Battery behavior will drive you crazy.

Grab a $6 multimeter from Harbor Freight and see what your running volts are. Let us know.
