    Hello all,

i just changed my ATF and im having issues with the AT TEMP CHECK MODE....

I am using the "jumper" mode (across #4 and #13 on the OBD connector) and when i start the truck, move the shifter to Neutral for a few seconds and then back and forth from Neutral to Drive (approx 6 times) my AT TEMP CHECK light does NOT come on..

I have tried a few times and i was able to get the light to either come on and STAY on OR i got it to blink repeatedly.

What i have read and viewed (youtube) states that the light should blink for 2 seconds and then go back off (this would have been after the sequence of approx 6 shifts between N and D).... until the temp rises and the light should come back on and stay on... At this point i'd drop the level check plug and let out excess OR i'd have to put more in.

    What am i doing wrong????

I drained and at this point i've put back in 4 qts of Toyota WS ATF..... I just need to do the last step and verify the level....

Dm93 That is the thread I used to perform the work… Well written and easy to follow…… I’m just not getting that blink of 2 seconds to verify going into mode…. Hoping someone else might be able to confirm having the same issues as I……. Thank You SOO much for your reply….. Hoping to hear from others who may have have the same experience I am having…

If it comes on solid that means you are at the right temp (which is the goal). Blinking means you are past temp.

What's the ambient temp in your area? Temp may be hot enough as soon as you enter temp check mode, or it may be too hot from the start. I used an infrared thermometer on the AT fluid pan and found that it reads pretty accurately compared to the trucks internal thermometer - might want to check that to see if you are cold / hot / getting close to correct temp. Depending on what you find it might be best to get out early in the morning while it's still cool to do this.

Im down in Central Florida GP, it had crossed my mind that due to the warm climate down here that it would'nt take much to reach that temp... I was just transfixed on the "2 second Blink".....

I'll give it a try when i get home... I DID fabricate a better jumper today while at work.... Got a nice solid piece of copper wire to use.... Was using stranded last night and not sure it was giving me the best connection...

I just completed this recently. If your cluster lights aren't blinking when you first start the vehicle you haven't jumped it correctly. If you don't see the At/temp after performing the N to D 6 times turn the vehicle off and try again.

Something I noticed - Before I even attempted this I ran the vehicle and cycled through the different gears for like 3 minutes. When I actually jumped the OBD I got the AT/TEMP light (to stay on) literally within 10 seconds after starting the vehicle instead of having to wait the 10+ mins.

FWIW I had exactly 3 quarts come out. Filled about 3.5 quarts. I drained approx 1/2 quart before it trickled. SO to fortech for the original write up.
