Lost power at work today, had time to go exploring in the old Gibson office’s. Saw this old picture of Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood taken in the early 70’s. There standing in front of a band saw I still use to this day.FACF5089-A1CE-4156-8DD2-7DF142D61295.jpg

I wonder what drives the big increase on the west coast? Some of it is taxes, but that can't be all of it. 87 octane here is 4.15-4.30, and state/fed taxes for TN are .46cpg.

My father and I at the old Gibson plant. I have several instruments built there in the 20’s, 30’s, 50’s and 60’s. I've been on a private tour of the Heritage factory. Some day I'd like to own a Heritage Golden Eagle. The last pic is of Rendal Wall. One of the last holdovers from the original Gibson people.

Great picture, you have a great collection. There might be some cool redevelopment coming soon, museum, restaurant/bar/hotel. I work for Heritage Guitar, still in the same building.

There are a few more but I was running out of wall space. :thumbsup:I might have pics of you from our tour. What do you do? Necks? Binding? Carving? I live for a nice hand carved archtop/archback! My oldest are a 1921 Gibson tenor banjo and a 1937 custom L50, and a 1948 L48. The banjo is more of a display piece but the guitars all play beautifully. My father (once considered one of the best tenor banjo players in MI and a unbelievable jazz guitar player in his day) met Rendal somewhere and they hit it off. He invited us to the factory for the public tour but gave us a private tour as well.

I'm on county water, but I've been thinking about putting in a hand pump well for a backup water source.

Good morning peeps! Gas around my area was 4.38/gal for 87 2 days ago when I filled the Taco, no idea what it's up to today but I'm sure that it didn't go down. I swear it just seems like another tactic from the never ending battle of class warfare. Outside it's a comfy 71°, it will be in the mid 90's by Sunday according to the weather liars. Not much improvement in my symptoms with the crud, but it hasn't gotten any worse either. I had a Tele-visit with my Doc yesterday, there's nothing to do except rest, stay hydrated, eat high protein foods and do some sort of exercise, even if it's just walking laps around the yard.

I think it is primarily the gas tax, followed by good old supply and demand, which is probably more in in play in places like CA. Look at this website. For example, PA's gas tax is almost 58 cents while TN's is 26. That's a difference of 32 cents per gallon. It's $4.65 where I am and you said yours is $4.15-$4.30. That just about makes up the difference.

living out in farm land most are on a well here, some county water on the main roads but not where im at.our area is limestone with lots of caverns and springs. not too hard to hit a water source here. its just a matter of how deep you have to go.

My cabin had a 50yo 2" well into an artesian stream only 32' deep. Now I have a 162' deep well up there. The water quality isn't as good but it's much more reliable and easier to winterize. Now our water comes from the same aquifer that "Spring Mountain" water comes from. Nestle bottles it about 20 miles from my cabin.

A lot of everything, I start the process building wood blanks, but mostly I build bodies, some neck work. Yes Rendal is a character, he has some stories.

For most places, the numbers do add up easy enough, but for places like Cali, the numbers are different. Their state/fed taxes make up about 88cpg vs my 46cpg, but the difference in the price of 1.90 is several times more than the tax difference. It could be that counties and cities are adding in more taxes that are not reported on the national websites. There are also more people and cars than the rest of the country so supply vs demand will have some effect, but it's not plain to see how much. The further west you go the more expensive fuel gets, and in Cali, it tops the charts.

The handpumps I'm looking at say they are only good for about 20-30 feet. I've only done a little bit of digging around the property, but the ground stays damp for several days after a good rain. So I'm hopeful I can find a good source at the ~20' level that will be good most if not all year.
