Ahhhhh, I thought you were much younger.

LOLOLOL jk of course. Yea, I mean, the average price for something decent in Harford County is going to be near 500k. You can get lucky on something smaller, older, for about 150 - 200k less though. 300k will be a tough stretch for anything that has a decent house on any type of parcel. If you could find a move-in condition 3br on 5ac for under 400k you should snatch it up. Again, that price is going to fluctuate greatly. I see houses around here going for over a mil. I don't know who TF is buying them though. If I had that kind of money I would not live near me. LOL

Seriously though, I hope you find something soon before things get worse for your situation.

Basically hits what I said on the head. 500k is average. We can get that down though I bet. I had no idea you were looking that far north. Gives me more breathing room.

As-is I commute 172miles each day. Being 40-45 mins from APG is doable. Casting a wide net!

Yeah - am old-ish. Will be 50 this year.

Thank you - if there was something on 5 acres for less than 400k and it wasn't a complete shit hole, I'd be on it. I don't want to spend 500k because i'm a mere lowly govt worker - though my GF should find work making within 30% of my salary so we could afford more...just do not want to afford more, ya know?

Built here in TX but I think still designed in Japan. The 4.0 has been on a lot of vehicles. Even my neighbors 4runner has it and I think his is '03.

Hopefully that’ll help you out some. Most places around here are like that, open floor plans I mean. Too many people watch those renovation shows and want the same. If I see anyone list in our neighborhood I’ll let you know. Sometimes they just post on the fb group and it does not get listed.

    That's really cool - thanks, unless you're a jerk and i shouldn't live near you. :D

Am with you on the shows ruining everything. I have never wanted to exist simultaneously in my kitchen and living room and den and family room and mud room and laundry room and foyer and eating nook and dining room. I do not need an 'Under the Big Top' house. "May I direct your attention to the CENTER ring, where the Lady of the house is preparing a lovely fire to cozy up the seating area. And Now! To the Left ring, where MISTER is preparing, accidentally, a lovely fire as well, instead of what was to be roast duck with mango salsa! And finally, to the right ring, where you will notice everyone's coats, boots, a washing machine AND drying machine beside our "Open concept" toilet and shower area. "

I saw one Craftsman house in the area - gorgeous. Except to do their 'renovations' they gutted the charm by removing the parlor, foyer, diningroom - as viewed from the front door, every area on that level of the house was visible. All the craftsmanship, gone. :(

That's a very broad search area, I feel that the northern corners would put you at well over an hour for commute time. The I-95 corridor is a bumper to bumper nightmare with the heavy traffic going south in the AM and north in the PM. Most of the secondary roads are the same way as people have been escaping from Baltimore for the past 20 years, so there's a ton of commuters that live north and travel south for work.

Best of wishes in your search, you just never know what is going to show up on the listing pages every morning.

Thank you very much for the insights. Then maybe I live south of APG so at least i'm going against the grain a little bit.

I grew up inner city and the kitchen was the command center of every house. If you couldn't see the people in the front of the house from the kitchen in the back it was because people were standing in the way in the dining room.

I would love to have an old farm house with the stairs in the center and rooms wrapped around it. I could really play hide-n-seek with the dogs. Unfortunately we were neither interested in going over budget or working on a fixer-upper. At the time, 20 years ago, we bought low and it's a modest place. With it just being us two, and the dogs it's perfect.

I'll keep my eye out, and I will snap a pic of those signs up the street so at least you can see what is going on because it is still not listed online.

Yea, what he said is true. The commutes are horrible. The worst for us once was 2.5 hours due to weather and traffic. If we weren't half way there at the time I would have went back. Thinking the commute home would be better, we were wrong.

You're theory is correct but the areas south of Aberdeen are more congested than the areas west/north. So when you are home there are more people near you.

Now, with that said, stay out of anything near Edgewood, Joppa, or just south of Aberdeen. Too much crime. Port Deposit or any low lying area south of the Conowingo Damn is insanity. They flood out bad when they release damn water in an emergency state.

Bel Air will be expensive as Aberdeen because you are in major towns, hospitals, and commercial districts, etc. The pockets of nicer homes on little property will be worth the money but you could do equally as well moving farther out. Seems they are adding muti-unit developments more and more in these areas too.

Over the Harford County line into Cecil County would be very good, or even over the state line into Pa. I'm 20 minutes from Aberdeen and less than 5 minutes from Pa. Lots of farms between here and there.

Fallston is expensive. Jarrettsville, and areas west get increasingly more pricey the closer you get to I-83.

If the drive wasn't so bad or you had a boat, I'd say try the eastern shore of Maryland. By that I mean the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay directly opposite of Aberdeen. Over there south of North East Md is inexpensive. For a reason. Little work. That commute might be the longest though, second to Pa.

Don’t forget about the tolls is you go on the Cecil county side. Taking 95 or 40 is 12$ going north but no charge going south.
The Conowingo dam is no charge either way.
I’m not sure how familiar you are with roads yet so if you need more input we’re happy to help.

Ahh ok… so yea, take Robs advice about areas to avoid. The entire area is getting pretty congested and houses are being built everywhere… well town houses are…
