I want one now more than ever. The 2022 Adventure is everything I could want, or need. I'd add the seat back tour pack to go with the saddle bags that come with it, and I'd be done.

Hey Brian! I still see you on IG from time to time, glad things are still on the up and up brother. Congrats on the little one!

I just had this flip last year, got it in late september and sold it right before thanksgiving:

    6B58DC9A-851D-4EC7-A12C-FEF8E808C55D.jpg

great bike, it just wasnt for me. Definitely worth the flip though. Picked it up and I didnt have a whole lot in it. Only thing it needed when I was done with it was a fresh set of tires since it only had 2400 miles on it and I believe they were the original tires from 2004! I did really good on it, makes me want to go back to flipping stuff again :anonymous:

I knew it was carb'd but you said you were replacing the petcock. With a manual operating one. Then showed a picture of a cable wrapped around that thingy. I thought you were showing how you removed the gate valve petcock and replaced it with a cable actuated valve. I was really confused. I'm still confused. More confused now than ever!!!!

Vacuum operated. Engine starts and pulls vacuum into the carb, a small short line pulls it from the petcock thus opening the diaphragm inside the petcock and allowing it to actually “turn on.” Super simple but annoying because when it fails, and they all eventually do, it can flood fuel into the motor, contaminate the oil, wash the cylinder walls and even hydrolock the motor when you try to start it. Since this bike has basically been sitting for almost three whole riding seasons, this was the one thing I was worried about, so i fixed that.

    You’d better believe it doggy.

Life picked up a lot and riding took a back seat since I kept getting hurt when I rode. Finished college, chased a couple career paths that didnt pan out, lost health insurance, and all but quit riding. I still put around the neighborhood from time to time just to keep the fuel moving. But since it hit about 14,800 miles, I started parking it. Its had three oil changes based on time instead of mileage.

PLUS the rings are getting pretty tired and the exhaust valve seals are hammered. She smokes on start up pretty good. But shows zero oil consumption on the dipstick. So i’ll thrash it this summer and plan on doing a rebuild late summer or early fall.

    Lectron carb
    434-440 big bore
    Head port and polish work
    Valves
    Stage1 or E model cams
And the better E model head gasket

then she’ll be 12.5:1 instead of 11.1:1 and it should pick up another 5+ hp i’d guess.
She was around 40-41hp in her prime but she’s definitely getting tired

I think I have him figured out, but read on...........

It's like him right?! Old and crustier every day!

Like we were suppose to use some sort of :alien: tech to figure that out? Looked like a cable wrapped butterfly valve cam to Devin and I. Probably David too.

Ok, so I wanted to be sure I knew what you were talking about so I watched a vid

    https://youtu.be/suYZ4MabCzk

and then just to be sure, this one. It starts just as he talks about how those diaphragm style cocks mysteriously fail.

    https://youtu.be/MlBDtshEykc?t=277

but of course I know this isn't the case with you. You would never leave it on Prime and sit any amount of time let alone 3 riding seasons!

That'll be great with you getting older, and inevitably heavier.

LOL you said Farkles. :gossip: it is a little Farkely. For a dual sport.

:bananadead: ........wait............his dirt bike is an auto?! What the hell are we talking about now damnit!?:frusty:

He implied, which is basically the same thing. :stirthepot:

It's been a long time since I ran the stock carb... But does the stock float bowl not have an overflow drain?

Wow, that's way old school. I haven't played with carbs in a long time but I do remember this. Or am I thinking of something else? Explain how it worked for me. Please. I'm Uncle Rob by the way.

Fuel fills the float bowl of the carb. There is a float in there that closes a needle valve when the bowl is full. If that needle valve isn't working to shut off fuel, you're either going to be dumping gas on the ground or flooding your motor. Most carbs will have an overflow drain to drain the float bowl if it overflows.

So fuel in oil scenario would require a perfect storm of issues.
    Petcock allows fuel by.
Float valve fails allowing fuel by
Overflow drain doesn't exist or is plugged.
Fuel finds its way up the jet into the carb and the layout of the carb and motor is such that fuel goes to the engine instead of filling up the air box.

At step 2, your bike doesn't run properly or dumps gas all over anyway.

Yea, no, I know how an old school carb works, what I am curious about is the overflow. How did that work? Ok, you said "plugged" and that's what I remember happening a lot on older dirt bikes. My first was an Elsinore. But before that it was an old Tecumseh slip clutch mini-bike as we called them
