###!!! Mice!

$2200 to replace mine. Dealer said they could probably repair the harness for $1200, but surprisingly my insurance would not go for that . They wanted everything replaced.

 

I had to eat it as my deductible is 1k.

 

I got really lucky, found the start of a nest when changing plugs in my RAV4. No apparent damage.

 

2016 was the latest docket I've seen in my area. All of them are dismissed because they are warranty claims. All manufacturers doing it means all of them can deny warranty on it. The cases are not for vehicles a decade old. If they stopped now cool, but it was most certainly a real issue for some vehicles in these forums.

I feel your pain. Truck had about 30k on it and I found that mice had eaten the sound mat on the engine cover. Had paw prints on the cover, intake and on top of the coil packs. I called my neighbor and said they should keep their cat inside for a couple of days, I'm on a mission...


The neighbor and their cat moved so the blocks live in the taco now. They've worked for sure; there have been progressively fewer nibbles in the blocks, no additional visible damage to the truck and I even had the pleasure of one bailing out and twitching to death on the driveway. That soothed the rage a bit. Don't. Eat. My. Truck. Little bastards.

 

Hot pepper sprays sure do work here better than peppermint oil on cotton balls. Just need to reapply it every 2 weeks. Mice won't go near my traps or snowmobile for at least a week if i give the area a good dose of this spray. After that they will hit the traps nearby.
Before that i've had to replace 2 harness's in my sled after mice build a nest, stored a load of bird seed, and hickory nuts, then chewed the wiring in several place's including leaving the copper wires strands in sheds. that ghost, and habanero pepper spray mix is a winner.

I was wondering if the Fluid Films / WOOLWAX coatings on the undercarriage would be a good first defense.

 

No poisons here either. Too many chances it'll end up killing another animal that eats a dead mouse or rat you poison. Better imo to try something that will repel the varmits, or just terminate them in traps without the use of poisons.

 

Just dealt with mice in my cabin filter. 2 dead babies started stinking. Toyota puts a plastic guard inside air intake for cabin air but mice chewed through and set up camp a top my cabin filter. Ugh

I've seen them whittle a four gallon plastic milk crate down to nothing.

 

A friend had $4k worth of wiring harness damage because of this on his 2nd gen Tacoma. Dealer told him that a woman with a Sequoia had $8k in damage, then got hit again one month later!

 

These work great, perhaps the best and most cost efficient mouse trap out there. You can even make your own. Put one at front and one at rear of your vehicle.

Or you can get D-con and kill everything in the neighborhood.

 

Advice: get a cat or two. Only feed the cat(s) dry food, not the expensive canned stuff. Never have a rodent problem again.

Agreed cats can damage paint jobs as they like to walk on vehicles and when they slip off, scratch the paint with their claws..besides the dirty foot prints..

 

I gotta tell ya, those are some big ass mouse turds. Around here they look look brown rice.

 

Apparently mint tea bags under the truck, in a garage works.

 

Interestingly the mint flavor we humans so enjoy repels animals because they associate the cooling flavor with being poisoned.

 

I use peppermint essential oil and water, spritzed all over my engine bay and suspension when out camping.

I have heard that cat urine can also help deter them, but that in itself is corrosive and smells horrible!
