Any ideas on fixing this "boo boo"?

After 5 years of not even a scratch, I became too dependent on my backup camera and had a little scrape. I'm thinking of replacing both rear bumper caps with black ones to match the rear bumper, but not sure what to do about the small dent at the bottom of the rear quarter panel. There is also a very minor crease just forward of the dent, but it is barely noticeable. Any ideas? Thanks.

Bumper caps are an easy swap if that's the route you want to go. The color matched ones I bought are surprisingly spot on my paint color. Or go Black if that's your preference.

 

Is the dent creased? I can't tell.

If not you can try a Harbor Freight suction cup and pop it out. I have done it before .

 

I just had that done, for damage similar to the OP's. Cost $620, for 4 tiny spots. (Conventional body work would have cost more, and the original paint would not have been saved.) I could have let it go, and it would not have been very noticeable, but this is a fairly new truck, barely a year and a half old. Somebody evidently bumped into me in a parking lot (didn't notice it until days later). These things happen, and there's nothing you can do about it.

You may be able to salvage your caps but I suspect you cracked/tore the bumper cap-bracket assembly. I had to replace one myself a few years back, IIRC you're looking for this part:

I was told there would be no reading.

 

Three options
1. Replace it with black ones.
2. If you have $$$, replace the whole bumper with steel bumper. Lead time is longer for most bumpers these days.
3. Pup the cap out and fix it yourself. It may not be perfect but i think it will do the job.

I did something similar. I was looking at the wrong object and hit the protruding corner of a cabin. The taillight is easy, the bumper cover is easy, but the underlying and internal plastic piece is broken. No other obvious damage beyond touch-up paint where the bumper impacted the rear quarter panel.

It is not a big issue, but I suspect @Kefka is correct (thanks for the diagram) about the diagnosis and parts required. I also note @NoVa TRD Sport 's cost estimate is close to a repair cost). $620 makes me question the fragile nature of the stock bumper along with maybe replacing the whole bumper with a steel one.

I was looking for pictures of other bumpers but there does not seem to be a thread dedicated to those.
Anyone care to share images of their replacement bumpers? Other ideas?
(I am thinking more compact and lower weight versions rather than full on overland versions.)
