I work for the City of Bend... Moved here last year from the Valley with higher hopes of buying a home with my new career. This town is ridiculous on home costs. 500k here buys a cardboard box, 500k back in the valley can buy you a house on acreage.

What valley? I'm in Forest Grove (north wet side of the valley). 500k gets a 1400-2000sqft house on 6ksqft or less lot.

Sounds like Bend is similar to over here. :curls:

Yeah, that's more rural-ish than up here near PDX/Beaverton area.

I think any home over $200k is stupid. I was super happy to cash in on my home sale at $247k and rebuy at $176k someplace else.

I guess I’ve just come to terms with reality and real estate in any desireable area is going to be a sacrifice and a lot of hard work to afford if thats a priority.

I will say though I pay more in property taxes for my little shit shack than I think people in OR pay for their properties.

You win some you lose some.

Depends on where in Oregon. I don't think we could find anything shy of a shit shack with zero property for less than 250k anywhere in Oregon.

As a contractor I can tell you right now with these lumber prices no one can even build a house at 200k so this is the new normal till lumber and shit goes down

Homeless guy stole my dads 911 Turbo and crashed it in madras. When they caught him he was from San Francisco and he said the only reason he moved was cause we decriminalized the shrooms he was on

I deal with that stuff all day (insurance adjustor).

Had a claim where a poor guy stole his bosses truck at a job site and ran a red light smashing into two cars. He said was fleeing 4 armed black men chasing him.

Poor guy had schizophrenia and thought he was running for his life. Unfortunately his boss was just trying to give a homeless guy a job.

Hopefully no one else got hurt. Sucks for the 911.

Bends growth is out of hand. Part of it is during the pandemic so many people discovered they can work out of their homes, so instead of waiting until retirement, they wanna be here now. I don't see prices coming down any time too soon.

Welp both of us got permission to request for remote work in OR.

Now the husband spends his lunch hour on Zillow.

It looks there there are properties that have been reduced in Bend. Like by tens of thousands. Is the market cooling off?
I mean it needs to cool off like 2008 for us to buy right now but I've just not seen that recently at all anywhere I've looked.

I hear ya man. My sister and brother in law have been in Bend for 20 years and they feel the same way. As soon as my niece is out of high school they're GTFO as well. Nice place to visit but unfortunately getting too damn expensive to live there, unless you're loaded.
