I got the Lomax tri fold from @GotExhaust back in 2020. So far I like it. It’s easy to use, light and easy to remove if you need the entire bed. Looks nice for a. good price was under $700 when I got mine.

I went with the bakflip mx4 and am very happy with the quality and the low profile look on a 6' bed.

I was going to go with this option till I realized it covers up the front tie down points and it drops below sub-floor molded in cross-support. They look great and seem secure thou.

Maybe on the short bed? They dont cover up either of my front tie downs. AAMOF, I just used the front ones yesterday to tie down an old queen mattress my buddy wanted to get rid of, just locked the cover in the retracted position.
Not really sure what you are talking about with the sub-floor cross support. The Retrax Pro does not cover up, nor require removal of anything on my long bed.

I kept both of the front tie downs, and even got to put back all 4 of the OEM adjustable cargo sliders under the rails.

I lucked out when I bought my used 2020, it had the OEM tri-fold and I like it. My first experience with one. It is a bit heavy but I have nothing to compare it to. It is easy to fold and unfold with some minor leakage that I think I can remedy, when or if, I get motivated, but doesn't really matter to me. I have yet to remove it for a load of anything. I've had bikes and mulch in the bed with no problems but that is about it. No real bad complaints, it works as intended.

I have the long bed also. I can see in your picture the same thing that my research showed, the front side tie downs are covered up, and the side of the canister sticks below the molded ledge where you can add a 1x6 across to hold cargo up or build a sub-floor for sleeping under a hard shell and still have storage underneath. (you'll see that there is also a molded in location for 1x6 near the tailgate)

I do like your solution of the expandable locking bar to hold the cases in place, need to get me one of those yet. Which brand is that and does it work well?

I went with the BAKFlip MX4. I like the flush fit. I bought it on a Good Friday Sale. It was easy to install and did it myself in a little over an hour. I later got the OEM tailgate lock and feel that my bed is secure.

On the short-bed you actually have to remove the forward tie downs, thought that is what was meant. While I have the forward ones covered up with the storage below the canister atm, like I said above they are still 100% usable, with the exception of tying down anything directly above the canister. They are not nearly as recessed as the pics make it seem. With the OEM sliding tie downs still usable there are actually more tie downs than I can use in most cases since you can slide the OEM ones so far forward.

I honestly didnt even think about building any kind of sub floor or anything like that as we have an off road trailer we tow and use for sleeping and a lot of our gear, and hardshells/camper toppers are a BIG no no for me. We use the molded on ledges to allow our bed bars to lock into place.
I guess its all about what you want do with it.

I have the Tyger T1 with the cross bars. If you're looking for affordable with decent quality, this is a great option. Paid $200 new for mine and I'm very happy with it.

Has anyone tried the Sawtooth brand flexible tonneau cover? This one has my interest but haven’t seen much written about it.

Thanks. I am looking for a tonneau to hold me over until I get a cap next spring. Bakflips are great, just do not need one long term

I have both the leer650 and the bakflip mx4. I would go with the bakflip its better quality and the fit seems better as well

It obviously comes down to personal preference but I chose the Peragon tonneau for my '22. It works very well, doesn't take up much room when folded up and it very quick and easy to remove if you need to use the full length of the bed. https://www.peragon.com/shop/covers/Toyota/Tacoma/2022

Thanks all for the input - I will keep looking at all the options to balance between cost and durability as I only am looking to have this short term.

I think this is will be theone I will be going with. Do you have any leaking issues when raining? That is the only bad thing I hear about it.

Thank you for all the information ad suggestions. I think I will be going with the bakflip MX4. Any recomendations on a good place to order it from with the best prices?

I recently put one on my first gen and couldn't be happier with that decision. Pair it with a locking tailgate and it gave me a lot of peace of mind. It's not the easiest thing to remove though, so if you do a lot of oversized loads it's not the best.
