Have I really been living a lie this big? How have I not gotten more speeding tickets?

I bought my truck with 31s installed. This says it came with 28.3"s... I never noticed speed traps saying I was going faster than I was or anything...How hard would it have been for someone to correct the speedometer?

It's possible you have been living that big of a lie... my truck came stock with those smaller tires, installed 31s which kinda threw it out of whack but what screwed me up worse was installing the transfer case from my 4R. The 4R came with 4.10s and this truck is 3.58s so now I'm off on my speedometer by 20%

Theoretically you could have been lucky and someone changed the speedo geat in the transfer case, it's a simple easy swap to put a different gear to correct the dash readings

It's easy to correct the speedo but check your door jamb sticker first to see what your truck came with. it will either be 31s or 225/75/15

To me that just says it might have come with 225/75r15, or it might have come with 31x10.50r15 or 265x70r16. Am I missing something that says it was specced with the 225?

I'm pretty confident mine came with 31s thanks to the 265/65r15 spare with DOT code 297 that was hanging under it when I bought it (the truck is a '98).

My door jamb sticker says 225, but that disagrees with the probably-original spare (see my previous post).

I have the pre-runner not the 4x4, but definitely it came with 15" wheels

That's fine, I'm not concerned with what it rolled out of the dealership with. But the sticker is whats most likely to influence what t-case gear you got.

Had to peel off some paint but it was definitely 225/75.

Guess my best bet is to drive a known distance and see what the odometer says.

I'm on 35s now, but before that might have gained me a few unknown mpgs
