No, I'm a cheap-azz mf'r. What I did was to take a set of amber bulbs and give them a light dust with silver engine paint. No egg yolk look when off, and only slightly less noticeable light output when lit.

I have some similar bulbs as my rear turn signals. They are plenty bright when illuminated.

However, I used to have some as the backup lights, and you can't see the white light through the silver very well during the day.

I had them on my BMW. The corners are equipped with the ultra bright ambers. They worked very well...

I've had friends that have done the same thing. It is still amber. Just make sure it's a very light coat.

Definitely, amber shines thru when lit. Note also that I did this on my motorcycle about 4 years ago and all is still good with the bulbs. Only thing I found to watch for is to ensure your bulbs are amber glass and not amber painted clear bulbs. Silver painting over the amber paint just makes the amber paint bubble up.
