Well that makes absolutely no sense. If the car is locked, how would the kids be able to get in before me?

We have 2015 (key) and 2020 (smart key) foresters. Neither of them shut off when you open the door

You won't get a valid answer for why this happens because there isn't one. You'll quickly learn around here you can't point out any short comings of our trucks. And if you do you'll get told you should have test drove it first, trade it for a Ridgeline, no reason to have that because (insert bullshit excuse), back in my day (who the fuck cares?) etc.

Still a ton of knowledge people here though and a good place to waste time. And for the record despite the shortcomings I'd still take my truck today over any other mid-size (well maybe until the Ranger Raptor is here).

My buddy has the N2 setup that does not shut down when he gets in, but he is MTX. Apparently this only effects the autos.

Was thinking this would be a quick fix with a Viper or other fully aftermarket setup.. but appearing to be hardcoded somehow. How annoying.

EDIT: I emailed N2 to see if they offer any way to bypass this, but with these threads that keep popping up about this super annoying 'feature', I'm not expecting any good news.

N2 remote starters will stay on when a door is open. I bought one for my manual transmission Tacoma and then sold it to my dad who has an automatic when I sold my truck. I tested it several times after installing for him. He has an SR5 with the H Key, same as the manual transmission Tacos

Yea it’s not a transmission issue, it’s the smart key

Per their site they still shut off when the door is opened on autos with the push start. Waiting for a response.

Ah, I see that now. Must be the push to start only as the H Key trucks will continue running.

Double check. The add-on units utiliIve seen will add parking light illumination and a longer run time, but still shutdown when doors are opened. Im thinking
Any add on units Ive seen where you can retain factory keyfob seem to still have that safety feature. I would imagine it may be possible with a complete stand alone unit that uses a seperate fob, but it all depends on if they can bypass that feature during installation. Id imagine it won’t be a plug-n-play situation. Defer to an installation pro for that one.

N2 has a old video on YouTube that shows he was able to bypass it. He will not share how to do it for liability concerns I’m sure. Totally understandable. I would however pay a lot of money to make it not shut off when door opens. It’s such a goofy thing to deal with. Sick of old timers in old Chevys n Dodges asking me why my truck shuts off when I open the door, lol

So what if the truck shuts off when you open the door. Is it so hard to just push the start button?

On our 2020 Armada, you start the Armada remotely, then go out and open the door and get in while engine continues to run. If you have the Key FOB and push the "Start" button the engine remains running when you shift out of Park. Otherwise it dies and must be restarted the normal way.

Well for one, it puts more wear on your crank and starter having to start it again for no reason.
