May as well embarrass myself more than I already have

So the City is buying a bunch of lamp posts from us, 26 to be exact. We cast most of the parts in-house such as the end caps, ornamental piece under the cross bar, caps, and more; we do it all.

Apparently they haven't made any of their really tall setups in many years so here's a mock up.

    20220519_150631.jpg

Going back to the aluminum, I can do it with TIG when doing a butt weld, flat.

MIG spool gun? Easy peasy, I'll do joints, etc.

Push-pull? That's really finicky cause you're running wire over a long distance the same way you run solid core.

Add to that really dirty, cast aluminum from recycled shit, and you've got something really hard to work with. Here's one pole tacked up.

    20220519_150650.jpg

Then these lamp bases get welded up.

    20220519_163719.jpg

Grinder and paint make you the welder you ain't

I wanted to say this but my mom yelling at me to keep my mouth shut was echoing in my head

His videos are very good resources though some unnecessary steps are thrown in at times

On another note, got a really nice (and my first, wife got several already) housewarming gift when I got home today!

    20220519_172954.jpg

Was a really nice and thoughtful gift from @Yota X :fistbump:

Hoping this will make me a better chef once I go to Culinary School!

Two years ago today I passed on the opportunity to buy this for cheap. Frame was solid, cab itself was fine but fenders had holes and dents, bed was gone, roof was alright but I'm sure some rot by the windshield, and the 20R was running. A flatbed, 5VZ swap, and a lot of work. Would've been cool. But I made the adult decision just like with the cheap Trekker roller.

I dislike his videos as well, his tone, over repetitive nature, and slow pace is infuriating. What do I know though, I wing 90% of what I do.

His videos definitely have value compared to a lot of DIY auto repair videos/channels. The repetitiveness is necessary when teaching someone that has limited automotive knowledge. Same with the slow pacing of things.

Dude is a firefighter which seems to share some similarities to the "fighter pilot" mentality and can come off as condescending. Just my observations I guess. Can't say I use/watch his videos anymore but I definitely did when I was starting off in this hobby back in 2017.
