Try using premium gas for a tank and see if it improves. Cost difference might be 10% but increase I’m gas mileage could be more than that according to some on this forum.

I did this recently only because they were doing maintenance on the regular pump at Costco and charging the same price for premium. No change

That was my thought. I calculated that IF I can get an extra 5 MPGs out of stock tires, it would be worth about an extra 100 miles/tank of gas.
This was pretty much my calculation but I was assuming getting like 22 or 23MPGs since I currently get 18MPGs. So it would be more like a 20% gain. So I would go from 350 miles per tank to 420 miles per tank. That makes it like 3.25 gallons per fill up. Same calculation $4.50/gal would equate to around $15.40 per fill up.
If I'm driving 500 miles/week or 2000 miles/month, that would mean that I would go from 5.7 fill ups per month to 4.7 fill ups per month. 20 gal tank at $4.50/gal is about $90/tank of gas. So I would be saving about $90/month.
Nearly same calculation as yours, but I adjusted the MPGs to reflect what I'm currently experiencing with my big tires.
Did I get it about right?

I appreciate you walking through the math. It was quite enjoyable working through it.

I've been running my tires at 40 psi and it got a little better, but I think I want more.

Also, another variable here is the ability to find a set of stock tires as "take offs" from people changing out their rims and tires. I've seen a few sets online in "like new" condition for about $500 or less. Finding some at a good deal will definitely be key.

Tires alone will absolutely not give you a 20% efficiency gain. And, if you did the math, why ask the question?

I said this before about the 90 Billion profit last year for the oil company’s, they charge what the market will support. Expect $6.00+. Before it starts to level. On mileage I believe a light bed cover helps to reduce drag. Is the air dam in the front still in place? You must remember it’s a truck not expected to get 30 mpg. Best of luck

Not even worth the money to buy new tires just to save a few mpg, math doesnt add up. It will cost you the exact same maybe a bit more since rubber went up too.

That would probably be your best bet if you wanted to try it and see what the real world numbers are for you. Then sell them if you don't like the results

You could game 23+ MPG going with a lighter HWY tire (stock size) with less rolling resistance. I had notable MPG gains going from Wrangler/OR Wheels to Defender/Pro wheels, which saved ~ 7lbs per corner in addition to less rolling resistance. You will save some $$$ at the pump and maybe some psychological relief knowing you're running as efficiently as you can.

You have any friends with stock tacomas? Swap wheels and tires with them for 1 week and prove to yourself if it will or won't be worth it at the pump. My vote is absolutely not. 5 mpg is extremely unrealistic. I've gotta ask bc no one else has, how do you calculate your gas mileage? Going off the dash display?

OP, your tires weigh ~58 lbs. The stock highway tires that come on the SR/SR5 weigh ~36 lbs.

That's 22 lbs and something close to a 40% increase in weight per corner.

Additionally unless you're re-geared the tire diameter also works against the torque that our trucks generate low in the rpm range.

Tires alone won't net you 5 mpg BUT driving/accelerating slowly AND the lighter tires could since you drive around relatively flat terrain.

If you lived in mountainous terrain then stretching the miles in a Tacoma is pretty much impossible... kinda similarly to driving around with large and heavy tires.

He didn’t, obviously, because he didn’t include the therapist’s bills for helping cope with the loss of badassery that come with the KO2s

When i changed the the tires on my stock sr5 i weighed the firestones...33 lbs and change. I replaced them with goodyear adventure 265/70 16's. They weighed almost 40 lbs. I might have lost 1 mph, about the same as removing the chin spoiler.

That is interesting that the stock tire diameter and simply adding ~7 lbs per tire knocked off a whole mpg.
