Can anyone tell me at what point extended brake lines are needed? Is there a certain amount of lift where the stock lines are too short? Looking at going up 2 inches front and rear and was curious if anything will need to be done to the lines. TIA

Do you plan to take it off road ever -- Yes -- Change them its easy and cheap.
No never -- leave the stocks

One of the worst feelings on the trails is when you are broken down waiting because of a simple solution you decided to neglect.

The limiting factor on a stock rear end is your shocks. Any shock that has a ~24" or less extended length won't need new brake lines. Once you start getting into higher amounts of lift/want more flex from the rear and need longer shocks, then you'll need new brake lines.

    Some examples:

OME Dakars and Bilstein 5100s - stock brake lines
Deavers and Kings - stock brake lines
Icon RXT and Bilstein B110 - +4" brake lines because the B110 are longer and allow for more flex
Deavers and a shock relocation with 12" shocks - +4 or greater brake lines because they're longer and allow for more flex

    Hopefully that clears things up.

I looked up the Ironman FCP rears and they are 610mm extended length, so 24.016” extended length. While I know I’ve had one side off the ground while off-roading and it didn’t snap the line, maybe I should still reconsider extended lines as well.
Thanks for this @EatSleepTacos great info.

Extended lines are never really a bad idea. I put a set of +6" on a friend's truck recently and just due to how they're designed and their flexibility, there's really no risk of getting them snagged on something from being too long or anything of that nature. It looks nice and you get braided stainless steel, but you don't necessarily need them with that setup. That said, we've all bought plenty of stuff we don't necessarily need but still want. My truck may be the worst offender.

I’ve never bought anything I didn’t necessarily need for my truck… well, maybe besides the actual truck and everything that’s not gas

I’ll add these to my list of things!

Good info. I have an Eibach pro stage one kit to install so I would assume that because of the length limit I wouldn't need to extend the lines.

I have this lift and with the rear end completely off the ground at full down flex, there is plenty of brake line left. The parking brake cables....those are a different story.

That's correct, your shocks would be the limiting factor so your brake lines would be fine.

I ended up having to remove the bracket that holds the parking brake line to the leaf. Luckily the line doesn't rub on the leafs very bad but if it gets worse I'll wrap it with another rubber hose to act as a sacrificial layer.

Just have to ask, have you checked the drivers side leaf saddle bolt to make sure the threaded end is not digging into the fuel tank? They had a batch of them the the bolts were put in the wrong way.

I would say, when you lift your truck by the frame, and drop the rear axle completely (might need to remove rear tires),,,, if your lines are stretch or tight,, then you should consider it. Worst thing that could happen is that you are on the trial and it over extends and you loose your rear breaks completely.... if you are on road only, i would not worry about it. (keep stock lines in a ziplock bag in your trail repair kit for emergencies)

I went extended on my 2nd gen mainly because of the extended travel front coilovers/rear shocks and rxt leafs. Got the Tacoma package from Headstrong Offroad (Crown lines... 1" front & 4" rear.)
Check the front lines at full droop/full lock... my oem lines were stretched bad after the lift... 1" extended gave some slack.

My truck is raised 3 inches in front and 2 inches in back but I don’t know about the brake lines. I will be doing some testing soon it sounds like. Thanks to all.
