Building a work truck

as i am new to this forum, i thought I'd share my plans for my truck. Rather then for pleasure, this truck will be for work. It is a 2009 dbl cab TRD, with the six speed and dressed in dark grey. My job as a logger, has me covering up to 200km a day on gravel roads, packing 85 gal of diesel for the equipment, and dodging tank trucks and loaded log trucks at 85km/h. This truck is the best so far that i've run out there, and i've driven every domestic on the road.

Currently Im getting a custom slip tank made (to make the most of the short box), have a small lift on order to help stuff a better tire then OEM under it (285/70r17 open country mt) and like most, have a few more pages of planed mods. I look forward to keeping all up to date on how the latest bush rig is built and how well it survives.

What is you choice of chain saws?

 

what do you recommend for springs? chain saw? nope, buncher. John Deere 853, cut around 3200 trees in 10 hours. gotta pack fuel, tools, maintance things. whats the deal with 5100's that everyone talk about?

 

Nice to meet you. I'm building mine for work also. I'm a Professional Faller on wildland fires and do some climbing and logging off of fires so I'm making some suspension mods to handle the fire/logging roads, beefier bumpers, etc... and fixing up the bed to hold all my falling/fire gear. I'll be posting some pictures in a month or so, just waiting on the bumpers.

I'm buying the Timbrens for my truck. http://www.timbren.com/ They mount on the bump stops and act like rubber springs. I am also going to add a leaf to the rear.

Matt, this post was from a while back.... how is ur truck holdin up?

I just picked up an '07 double cab, 6spd, TRD, with the intention of making it my electrical work truck. I'm thinking that i shoulda went with a long box, but don't think they are available with the 6spd.?.

Did you have that custom slip tank built? Who did it and how much? I'm thinkin that i might have to have any tool boxes that i need for the truck custom made.

 

haha, gotta be honest, i sold the truck a little over a year ago. But i did get a tank made (holds 365L) and it was a great work truck. and your right the long box is not avalible with a 6 speed. my buddy is a welder, and he had the tank bent up in edmonton, then he welded it. think final price ( he charged full rate since its his company/job, and was my company expense) like 750. the only issue with the taco is the soft leafs (even though canadians got the factory hd springs without complants required). i did a small lift on it, and it helped, but if i had to do it again i wouldn't do a spacer lift (fuck alignment unless you do control arms to correct camber) but i would go with monroe air shocks. they're basicly a shock with a built in air bag that can accomidate extra payload. i have them on my lowered canyon and they rock. no load, dump the air, but load it up and pump them up to a max of 150psi or about an extra 1000lbs. as far as custom boxes i'd say its totally worth it since your space is at a primium, but watch what they wanna charge and shop around. more drawers doors and shelves add labour which means $$$$. if you can draw up what you want its easier to get what you want and get quotes faster. Not sure where you live but i know you can get custom aluminum anything through cc industries outta prince george. i worked at raven truck accessories and i did allot of custom shit for clients. hope this helps

Original Poster (I believe). I thought it was really cool that you came back to help even though you had sold your truck a year ago. I have been to Canada several times (making a trip to Banff next summer). Canadians are always friendly people. I was just making an observation.

 

I hope for your sake it stays that way , we've been decimated .

 

hey i'm a car guy with way too much useless/ful information, just happy to share. logging here has go to shit, hence why im a hd mechanic at a coal mine, but will go back logging when its worth while. and just for the few people who are reading this, i will get another tacoma, loved the truck, just expensive.

 

Don't make me take pictures. We're no BC, but there are places where it is physically impossible to walk cause the trees are so thick.
