there is a TSB for an ECU update that resolves a lot of the issues, go to a reputable dealership, describe the issue and ask about the TSB. if they play dumb, say that a friend with an identical truck said they had the same issue and got the TSB done and the truck drives way better. it isn't as good as a tune but won't hurt fuel mileage and is a great improvement for the price of Free.99

my post from when I had mine done:

My buddies 2019 trd was slow compared to my 2020 sr5 which runs 0-60 quicker than my old 4.7 v8 tundra. Its been a great taco so far. Idk about all 2019 tacoma's, but they sure straightened them out the following year.

Consumer report find the 2019 not a good year to buy. Yet there are many reports the 2016 was not a good year to buy. And the 2019 was consider one of the better years to own by other articles.

Guessing with so many studies/surveys done, it could go in any direction? So many variables?

Botton line is what ever year Tacoma you brought, if it rarely gives you any problems, you will consider it the “best year”!

As for performance the 3gens, it works for me! I coming from owning a under power 4x4 1999 Ford ranger with a 3.0, before owning my 2019.

especially in the summer! lots of knocking on 87 when it's hot out and as a result, the ECU retards the timing.

Push the skinny pedal. Problem solved.

I’m not a drag racer by any means, but my 3.5L taco is the fastest 0-60 automobile I’ve ever owned and it is also the heaviest. 270 hp and 0-60 in 7s is nothing to laugh at. People just need to learn how to harness it. That or they need to be more accurate about what they are complaining about, the AT shift point behavior.

Had to research that, and actually they found nothing wrong with the 2016. They look for very specific parts of the vehicle, cosmetically and mechanically. For example: the paint/ trim on the 2014 and 2017 have a higher rate of problems, but only those years. The fuel system on the 2018 and 2019, but only those years. The 2019 had more issues the most, but they don't recommend not buying it.

I've never had any knocking from my 3.5 when its been hot, and i run 87 all the time. Trucks runs like a sum-bitch. Not so much on premium.

I had to LOL on this comment....buahahahaha!

My Sport can be spirited on the launches I do...and I've been doing it, "on the regular".

I've also been engaging 4H on straightaways...just need to find my backroad dirt areas soon.

I have a 2019 Off Road that runs fine. I had the fuel pump recall done ( although I never had a problem)
I had the ecu reflash done and the brake light TSB . Other than that no complaints or issues. All these things I had done I did to be proactive, none needed to be done. Although the reflash did improve the feel of the drive .

My 2019 SR5 stalled recently turning my driveway. It started up again with no problem. The fuel pump tsb was done years ago, but not the reflash. (was this tsb public?) With the reflash done by a dealer (at no charge) it now feels like a new truck.

    Best money I've never spent.
