RSI Smart Cap

After almost 9 hours of driving round trip, found a fellow silver tacoma DCLB selling his RSI used on craigslist at a good price as he wanted the GFC topper. so happy to have it installed

 

Of course he didn't have the second part of the harness. and i feel somewhat pressed to get the third brake light working because of dummies on the road. So if anyone is interested in wiring these themselves, i got some brake light wire at home depot as well as some 16-18 gauge taps, tapped it just before the plug on the provided harness, after the fuse, and tapped to my rear left brake light. took about 5 feet of cable, 3 taps and about 5 minutes of your time. worked a charm!

 

Anywhere take a deposit and pay final invoice when cap arrives? Not too comfortable shelling out $4000 and not having an accurate date of arrival/shipment

Got a notification from CARiD that they had 5 Evo Sports in today for the long bed and that they'd ship out tomorrow. Hopefully it's accurate, put my order in. Will update when it ships and arrives.

Who did you go through I ordered mine through offroad alliance in November. Originally was suppose to be here by now. They have since told me possibly June, then July and now most recently potentially August. They seem to have no idea.

 

Mikes custom toys. i haven't reached out in a while to check on status. but they seem to have hit their delivery marks. I ordered it at the end of march.

 

Until the plant in the US is up and running the delays are tough and probably going to continue. @OffroadAlliance.com was who I ordered mine through and while the delays were difficult OA did their best to keep me updated until I got it.

 

no go with CARiD. Didn't ship out in 24 hours so I did their live chat. They oversold the item and they have no ETA. Asked for a refund, told me it would take 5 to 8 business days to get a refund.

Will reach out to @Mike's Custom Toys for an order instead.

 

Checked in with OA today:

EVOs - Shipments expected to arrive in late June, July, and August
EVOa - Shipments expected to arrive late July - mid August

We'll see if these timelines hold. No word on when the US plant will be operational.

 

I have an EvoA for my DCLB that is for sale if anyone is interested:
Purchased from ORA in March 2021. I removed the RSI emblems. Been sitting on bed since.
It's a great cap and if you're looking, you know that. I also have a LED light kit, never installed, that was like $50 I'll throw in if I find it.
Priced now at ORA @ Cap $3795, Bars $245. They have 1 in stock.
For sale in SE Virginia for $3400. I will drive a little to make the deal if it is right.. It's located in Virginia, Tidewater area.

Late reply, but someone asked about an EVO Sport on order. I have one on order from OA.

 

This is really tempting since I'm in MD... I'd be all over this if it were a Sport.

Does anyone have any good tips for unlatching it from the inside? Looking at the mechanism, seems I could drill a small hole through the plastic backing giving me access to the latch from the inside. Could plug it with a plastic stopper if I'm ever that worried about water. I don't like the idea of leaving the latches open while I'm sleeping for any reason it may get closed on me.
